PlazaJapan is the way to go. I got mine from the dude (he's in Osaka, where Kato has a factory-direct store) & they showed up way earlier than I expected. Get 'em now, cause you never know when Godzilla will ravage the models next.
Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about! Awesome Chris! Meahwhile, I'm up early cutting down an old caboose chassis to use as a dummy for building the boxcab while I wait for my 11-105. Should also be getting to the LHS today to pick up some styrene bits for detailing both this and the 59-tonner I'm working on. :tb-biggrin:
It's going to take a little something extra (EF-1 prototype test model) to get me to forget what I saw. :tb-wink:
So you drew everything on AutoCad? Is this the place you send it off to? What's the difference between: METAL ETCHING - BLACK HALF ETCH FRONT - RED HALF ETCH BACK - BLUE ETCH THROUGH - WHITE Is it measured for a specific mechanism? What size (2mm, 4mm, 6mm) do you go for? Can you get everything on one A4 sheet? My math might be a bit off, but does it come out to be around $60-$70 for one sheet (after taxes & shipping)? Having never done a brass kit, much less "ordered out" for one, I'd love a "how to", or at least some more details. Thanks for sharing, Chris!
I second this. I'd also love to know more about this process. I have access to AutoCAD but don't know what I'd do with a file from there.
Yes that PPD in the link is correct. The sheet will be 0.20mm thick brass or .008". I don't know the size off hand. I just sent them the file and asked for a quote to make 4 of them. They haven't replied yet. In the drawing: white is full thickness red is half etch front blue is half etch back If you have CAD PM me your e-mail and I can send you the file. It is possible there are mistakes on the drawing, but we'll see. I have only sent out etch work once before and the results: https://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/Nn3#5573677208219195538 That I folded up into this: https://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/Nn3#5573677150980365250 It is made for my home made chassis using Tomytec trucks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TANtWfsCQuE The truck wheelbase matches perfect and the body is made to scale. The frame may need adjusted to fit and I may scrap my gearbox and use a gearhead.
Those little square hoppers are kickbrass!! I like all the little holes. Are they just sitting on the truck? Dang, you're going to get me addicted to brass. Now I'm going to have to learn CAD. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, Chris is amazing, ain't he? And hey, since it looks like you'll end up with an extra set of truck outers, I won't feel bad at all if you send it to me as a late birthday present. :tb-tongue:
Does it count if the cab has a plow on the front? http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/album.php?albumid=1190&attachmentid=35331 If you like it. I could try to post more pictures but I'm having problems uploading them.
Yowza! It's been quite a while since I have seen a thread like this take on a life of its own. Quite the button you have pushed. I am impressed with all of the responses - including mine. Maybe, just maybe I'll do it.
