I was just talking to my son about this challenge, and it occurred to us that our project should be called the "parts-box cab". And so it shall!

That second one is too large. I think that there are Japanese models that look like that EP-3.

The first picture would be a better choice! Or some freeprotolancing, since I am not planning to make catenary.

A pity that this is not a boxcab: http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0201/bv33.jpg

Hey, what about doing the first one in the second one's paint scheme? Or make a shorty version of the second one? You could put a third truck in the middle for added effect!

And I agree about number 4. I thought that was pretty cool, too. :)

UPDATE: Or wait, look at that beauty in the stripes behind the red and white one!

I think that the only boxcab in that paint scheme, was that particular boxcab. The rest of the fleet didn't get that fresh paint.

Lately I have been playing with thoughts about some urban oNetrak modules. Your plan with that carfloat, and the (Austrian) Ntrakmodules in the MR, made me curious about planning a city with an elevated mainline and streetrunning. And for that streetrunning, I could use a small boxcab!

Excellent. So you can make the boxcab in that nice paint scheme. :) Shall we start planning your layout now, or do you want to wait a few weeks? :tb-tongue:

Hahaha :tb-biggrin:!!! Well, after making some simple drawings, I use track and turnouts to do the real planning. So, unless you can come over for an evening to help me with this, it will be difficult for you to plan my layout. :tb-wink:

Anyone has a spare 44t for me?

Last time I had the opportunity to go to the Netherlands was with my band about 13 years ago (the rest of the band made it, I couldn't take the time off for that particular European tour). But I'd definitely come if I could! ;-)

Out of my modeling skill range, but how's this for a boxcab?

The PRR FF1 was built in 1917 and had a max tractive effort of 88,000 lbs. Kinda insanely overpowered for the cars of that era.

It's a boxcab, just like all those other electric monsters from Pennsy and New Haven.

Problem with thos large boxcabs is the underframe and trucks. Where to get those??? Some of those locomotives have wheel arrangements that ressemble steamers...

I am intrigued with this thread. Were I much younger, I would return to building the HO catenary I started in 1960, however.....

But, there's a bunch of box-cabs that few people think of. They pulled BAP trains for 54 years, 1913-1967.

I'm in HO and have not talent, but I thin it would be fun to do a Boxcab like this one...

And in all actuallity, there is precedent for diesel powered Shays, where they just s=changed the body and what turned the cylinders, oh if I only had talent

Consider building a Pennsy DD-1. You could start with the running gear from almost any 4-4-0 Atlantic.
Come to think of it, you might have to call it a "boxes-cab". :tb-wink:

I would be thrilled if I could get my hands on some of these... they would be perfect for my mountain division. Have looked at a number of the Japanese models but have found only one or two models that would be suitable (in my opinion) as a starting place for such, with a Kato GG1 chassis to get the right look under the shell (the GG1's drive trucks and end trucks were identical. To be exact it was the NH EF3 (streamlined, double cabbed) that inspired the PRR to pursue the GG1's development, though the NH EF3s remained the more powerful of the two.
