    George,

Try deleteing your Temporary Internet Cache and your cookies and then try again. If that doesn't work, you'll have to upgrade to IE8 - I know you hate it but:-

    1. IE6 is officially "dead"; it's 10 years old and no longer supported by Microsoft under its Product Support Lifecycle Policy. IE6 was installed as part of Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4 and Sever 2003 SP1 Operating Systems - all three Operating Systems are also no longer supported.

    2. On 1st August 2011 Google are no longer supporting IE7, Firefox 3.5, Apple Safari 3 and their own Chrome 9 - where Google leads, others will be following.

IE8 is a great browser, as long as you don't install toolbars - especially the Google and Yahoo! Toolbars

Besides, who's got the time and money to check program code works on out dated browsers in the current ecomomic climate - Charlie and the guys here sure as hell don't!

    George,

I don't think that's something that will be fixed as it is an unidentifiable problem. As posted by Steve, support for old browsers is not going to be something that the people that develop these software packages are thinking about.

I use the Firefox browser but the latest IE and Google Chrome browsers work like a champ.

Charlie is correct. If you consider the growth/development of browsers, each version of IE is like 10-15 years of car development. If you consider the first version of IE as of a 1903 Model T, today's IE is a flex fuel 450hp Corvette. You're IE6 is a 1965 Mustang....it works, it has no AC/PS/PW/ABS/TC/CD......it is a basic, fuel wasting car that does not handle well and does not stop well. I work in IT. IE6 is dead. IE7 is onlife support. Opera is not that great and Safari...well....um.....it makes IE6 look good.

No problems here, using fairly recent Firefox browsers on both Mac and PC platforms.

Emptying the cache so often takes care of my browser problems.

We may have to re-organize the buttons for people without widescreen resolution.

yep.. it's the web.. lowest common denominator guys ;) Actually, it's not a small screen res, I just didn't have it maxed out. Either way, the buttons shouldn't get all goofy like that.

There's really no good reason to stay on IE6 anymore, you're just causing yourself pain for no reason. Even the big corporations are moving off of it (although my big corporation, which is one of the biggest and in the IT industry JUST started internal support for IE8, so there you go).

I regularly view the site full screen on a 4:3 19" monitor and have no problems at all.

    Same here.

IE6 was a rather comfortable place. I did not care much for IE7, but IE8 seems to be better. I still have IE6 on my old lap top and it does a fair job yet. But one of these days I must clutter the tiny hard drive upgrading...

I really like the new format. It works very well with a 16:9 monitor. Actually it's a Samsung 23" TV that no longer had a home, so it's now a 1080i monitor. Also IE9 appears to have no problems with the new format, once I understood and overrode a default security setting.

In the next year or so, if not the next couple months, you may find that you can't use IE6, because new Web features will no longer be supported. It will be like trying to view the web using Netscape 4.7. It just won't work.

You are not alone with having this issue no matter what browser you are using. Those of us with Standard Size Monitors can't see or access all the buttons as there are just to many currently. I've suggested that maybe limiting the button's to eight (8) might resolve this...

Many operating systems offer the option to enlarge or reduce the image being displayed. With Windows XP and Windows 7 you can change the size of the displayed image as an option in Control Panel. Windows 7 also offers that same option in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I don't know if this will help your display problems, but it's worth looking into.

BTW, what I've just described is a function of only the Operating System, and has nothing to do with whatever Browser you're using.

Problem is Hank that changing the Display from 1024x768 (via the Control Panel) on my monitor and/or using the Zoom Out (3x) on the Browsers to get all the buttons to lineup onto a single line makes the TEXT; so small it can't be read.

Agreed, but I was hoping for an interim work-around until the basic cause can be corrected.

I am going to try this in FireFox. I am sure when I finish and hit reply...it will log me out as it has on 2 previous attempts

My wife and I have an online bussiness. Its non train related. Its not big...but it gets her some "Mad Money" as she calls it.

So here are some stats...(we use google analytics):

July 1st thru the 14th..just 2 weeks ( July statistically is our slowest month)

    We had 22,651 visits

11,581 of those visitors used IE

    Of those:

    6871 used IE 8

    2947 used IE9

    1269 used IE7

    487 used IE 6

    5 used IE5

    3 used IE4

    Of the total visits:

    11,820 where returning customers

    10,831 where New visitors

Ok...so by stats we have 487 people using IE6. By everyones comments here we should tell those 487 customers we dont want/need their bussiness? 487 potential buyers ! I dont think thats makes very good bussiness sense !

NOW...TB I am sure has even more visitors etc.. Charlie I am sure runs his own stats. If his stats show ANy users using IE6...he is losing potential (customers/contributors) TB is supported by member contributions. Excluding IE6 users just to have some fancy dancy looking website that requires more then some users are willing to install on their computers...also doesnt make much sense to me. IMHO...forums dont need to be run on a platform that is so heavily 'special applications' burdened.

Charlie...I aint bad mouthing you...its your website...your business. I just know I cant use TB because it wont run on my system. A system that may be old...but NOT obsolete by any means ! I am sure if you check your stats pages...you will see I am NOT the only one who cant 'contribute' here. JMO

This isn't a business though. And quite frankly, while I would never turn away a potential customer I also wouldn't hamper my security, my advertising and my support by supporting ratty old technology.
Using IE6 means you're not getting patch support, no security support. You are putting yourself at greater risk. It is not something that anyone should do willingly.

And every business at some point must make a choice on who to support and who not to support. Every single hobby shop that is closed on Sunday and closes weekdays before 9pm has made a choice to make it much harder for me to buy from them. They had to weigh the value of staying open and they made a choice.

For an online business it's even harder. By removing support for stupid IE6, you can have significantly better websites. You can showcase product so very much better, you can code it much easier, you can make it more secure so people will be willing to trust their transactions with you, you can do more to make your site compelling to people and thus generate revenue.

That is what you weigh versus losing some stubborn people that won't or can't update.

I don't want to lose anyone as a contributor to this forum, but vB4 is pretty much better than vB3 in every way I can think of. Better on the front end, better on the back end, easier to use (once you understand the changes) and easier to do CMS for. Giving all that up so a few people can stick with an outdated browser that has been worst in class for years seems like not a good choice to me.

I used to tolerate IE6 in the business world, because lets face it, Oracle costs money and so if they only support IE6, then you only support IE6, but for an individual surfing the internet? Come on.
