... I replaced my traction tire wheels for regular wheels on all four; makes a huge difference in stop-studder crap with the decoders. Brian[/QUOTE] @Brian, How do you recommend replacing the TT wheels with 'regular' wheels? I have noticed the same 'stop stutter' performance you mention. Regards, and thanks, Henry
I contacted BLI and got the wheels from them. It makes a huge difference. Now, keep in mind that the tractive performance will be somewhat diminished but I usually will run 2 of their locos together so its not an issue. Brian
What did it cost for replacement wheels? I'm guessing an 11 car Kato California Zephyr won't be a problem? Might have to consider, depending on how my units run. Won't know till tomorrow night.
Thanks for the quick reply. I ran my set of Alcos on our N-trak layout and there were enough episodes of stuttering and restarting to make me want to switch wheels..... Henry
Got my units today! Been running, and experimenting with them for about an hour. Think if I'd have cleaned track FIRST, they'd run a bit better! Although, operations smoothed out nicely after a few minutes. Only thing I found, is the units do NOT like a couple of my turnouts! They'd hit the frog, die and restart almost immediately. But, only at a slow speed. Higher speed didn't make too much difference. However, they also ran through same turnouts in the opposite direction with NO problems of any sort! Aside from a couple of quirks to start, I'm happy with my units!
You're not alone, mine do the same, mainly on Kato #4's set up with the frogs dead, with the frogs live they do OK.
Mine are Atlas Custom #4 with Caboose ground throws. Guess I'll have to look into wheel replace, ment also. Unless I can swap wheels with the unpowered B unit?? Putting the traction tired wheels on it instead. Or, see if I can run wires between the A units for improved electrical pick up. Have plenty of time to decide what I'm gonna do.
