Just recently this week I was going to run my Challenger on my N scale layout (DCC) for some reason the locomotive would not start either direction but all the sound funtions etc respond to the throttle. When I ran it on analog mode (DC) for testing with my remote it ran just fine with out any problems. Its seems its just the DCC mode it will not run on. I've checked my layout etc, my Challenger but nothing. It was just a few days when I last ran it on DCC.
    Any advice out there?

I had an engine do something similar. I reset the decoder (You can find the CV and value to reset it in the Challenger's info book) and it worked fine after. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

As Sierra said, performing a DC reset on the loco is the easiest solution. If it is anything like the issues I ran into with the same HO units, the loco's glitch into a consist. Resetting was the easiest solution.

In order to solve the issue, I stopped using Digitrax easy address programing and did the address change and setting of CV29 manually. They have been flawless for 3 years since doing that.

Thanks for all the support guys, Brian, I've read my manual and have reset my Challenger back to its factory default mode. But for reason it still will not move an inch on DCC. All sounds and commands are functioning normal and respond to my throttle. On regular analog DC mode the Challenger still runs fine and responds to the small Athearn controller. My friend has also brought his Rio Grande challenger for testing and it ran and responded fine to my DCC controller. I may call Athearn this week, it could be a decoder malfuntion.

Did you reset it on DC? I had one do some goofy things, resetting with DCC accomplished zip. I had to reset using the DC reset sequence.

That is really strange. I have no idea what to make of it. After talking to Athearn, please let us know how it goes. One thing that I must ask though (and don't feel bad, I'm only asking because I have done it myself) after resetting, did you try it on address 3? I have reset a decoder before and forgot to change it on my controller to address 3 and wondered why it wouldn't work.

I'll ask also, did you do the DC reset? From talking to Athearn, a DCC reset does not reset all of the settings, however the DC reset using the remote, does. I was told by Athearn, the only way to fully reset the decoder with DCC is to program each of the factory defaults, one at a time as they are listed in the manual.
