Maxi IV's in Z. Super excited for your release of Maxi IV awesomeness in Z, cant wait! And definitely can't wait for AZL to start pushing-out some AC4400's & C44-9's. I also think they are going to be releasing some new roadnames for their SD70M in the near future? So...can I just use a "reservation interval" now for a set of RTR: TTX and Pacer Stacktrain, ha!? I too am so looking forward to seeing these run on my layout, hehe. What's next...Bi-level auto racks perhaps!?

Maxi IV Update This, my second consecutive day off in about 2-3 months, was used productively. As I woke up to the sun shining, and not an alarm clock at 3:30am, I noticed the wind was not yet blowing. I jumped out of bed, threw some clothes on, assembled my spin caster and turned on the LEE melting machine. I prepped the new mold I made near 2 months ago to make the last pieces for the Maxi IV assembly. I have to say, the first casting was beautiful. I used the time wisely and cast as many of the bolsters as I could before the wind picked up. Right now I have enough for all of the 8 Maxi IV's I have here with me. I will need another day or two to make enough bolsters for the 80 Maxi IV's I have in Georgia. No problem. The Maxi IV will require 5 white metal castings, 6 if you want to go super detail. I have all 6 now ready. I just assembled the bolsters on the one and only Maxi IV set that I have built so far. BEAUTIFUL!!! Just need to paint and decal it. SOON!!! I am eating lunch right now, but will take photos of the castings and the Maxi IV complete and post them here within the next hour or so!!! Stay Tuned Intermodal Z modelers!!!! Hobo Tim
Photos as promised All 6 castings fit on a Penny with room to spare! (2 End Bolsters, 2 Articulating Bolsters, and 2 Air Tanks) Articulating Bolster Attached End Bolster inserted into pocket Here all bolsters in place to show full length. Each Bolster, End and Articulating, are center drilled and tapped for a 00-90 screw that holds the truck to the bolster. Hobo Tim
Air Tank castings Two air tank castings are also attached to the Maxi IV set before air brushing! First is located on the "B" end at the Brake Wheel. Second air tank is attached at the articulating end of the "A" wellcar. The regulator is etched and bent to simulate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am so happy that all parts are now ready to complete the Maxi IV. I think Gerd is probably more happy now so that he can work on me sending him a complete kit for his amusement and build. The only thing I need to work on now is to make the artwork for the various decals that will be needed for the TTX, BNSF and BRAN(Pacer). Please post comments. Hobo Tim
Tim ! Just 8 ??? You are going to sell hundreds of those beauties. With all the new containers available, going to look SWEET ! (and the tank car too )
Thank you! Thanks for all the comments, emails, and messages. I think this Maxi IV project by the comments I am getting secures the fact that there is still not enough modern railroad equipment in Z scale when this kind of hunder presents itself. I only thought their was a hunger for modern way back in 2005. Wow!!! I wanted to air brush the Maxi IV this morning, but when I awoke, the wind was already blowing too hard to attempt it. See, I am currently stuck in a 35' RV trailer which makes any kind of airbrushing or casting or anything other than decaling or scratchbuilding near impossible. I'd run the exhaust tube from my portable paint booth out a window but the wind outside is more powerful than the motor fan on the booth and would blow the paint and fumes back inside. Ugh!! Defeat the purpose! I have tomorrow off so will try then too. Crossing my fingers the wind will be calmer to calm. In the next 30 days will be looking for a more permanent place to stay, hoping for a place with a garage or at least a good room for the hobby. Thanks again for all the comments. Rest easy knowing I am working on other modern Intermodal equipment for the near future! Hobo Tim
Air Brushing Complete "B" End photo of detail with paint applied!! Notice the brake components detail beside the brake wheel column. The view is much better when viewed in person. Un fortunately, I made a goof-up. I allowed the solder to fill one of the brake wheel openings. I should have removed the solder before painting. Ugh!!! Notice all grab irons are painted white to include the end grabs. Also notice the grab iron behind the brake wheel. The detail around the brake wheel is awesome!! I only took photos of the the "B" End as it has the most detail. The whole Maxi IV set looks awesome!!! Just need to apply some decals. Will be working on the artwork today. Hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks i can have decals in hand and applied. Hobo Tim
I wonder if the decals you are going to apply to the TTX set's are gonna look like these...? I don't think I have seen any scale use this logo yet... ^_^
