Is there anyone still fighting to bring ski train back or is it dead for good? Its been a year since I heard anything and since I'm thinking about my annual ski trip next week, of course I'm thinking of my brief but great memories of the ski train. Alex
At this time it's sadly dead. The last company that tried to get it going again got UP to agree but Amtrak killed it. :tb-sad: :tb-sad: :tb-sad: :tb-sad:

It's going to court soon, SLRG suing Amtrak over breach of contract. SLRG has a lot going for it, City of Denver, City of Winter Park, Union Pacific and others want the Ski Train, it was Amtrak that agreed and literally at the last second pulled out and made unreasonable demands over insurance and employees. Not likely. If Anschutz couldn't turn it into a profitable and on going tradition. It's not likely anyone else will. Sorry about that.
I've always wondered how they could claim they were running in the "red" all those years. They used Union Station Rent Free. Low budget website. Union Pacific didn't charge any dues Unpaid Volunteers on the cars. I imagine the engineer(s)/conductor was paid. 700 something passengers EACH trip! The locomotives weren't using THAT much fuel... seriously. Insurance and upkeep added some, but no major accidents or incidents. The equipment was paid off as well. No way Ski Train lost money, yet Georgetown Loop operated ok, or C&TS for that matter. D&S is a money maker no doubt. But to think other "tourist" railroads are doing/did fine and do their own track and structure upkeep and yet Ski Train ALWAYS operated at a loss. Sorry, it doesn't add up. Josh
