If you love Amtrak P42s and love the Phase III paint scheme, your fantasy scheme prayers have just been answered: Behold, the Amtrak 40th Anniversary Loco! Reportedly that picture was taken this morning running on the Capitol Limited.
There will be a total of four of these units repainted in honor/celebration of Amtraks 40th anniversary. This is the first one. They are being repainted in Beech Grove. Later this year a special train with redone baggage cars and at least one of these special engine will be making a tour of the country with amtrak history in them. Here are two pics of the 145.
Here is a list of the engines to be repainted and what scheme they will be in. They will all be in service by the end of April. Paint scheme: Phase I – introduced 1972 In photo: SDP40F #50 To be adapted to: P-42 #156 Paint scheme: Phase II – introduced 1975 In photo: F40PH #210 To be adapted to: P-42 #66 Paint scheme: Phase III – introduced 1979 In photo: F40PH #359 To be adapted to: P-42 #145 Paint scheme: Phase IV – introduced 1993 In photo: P42 #117 To be applied to: P-42 #184
The history train will make its debut on national train day in Washington DC on May 7 then travel across the country for one year.:tb-biggrin:
Thanks for all pix and info ... yes, I'm a P42/F40 fan and appreciate seeing history, gives some motive for running multiple schemes on my modern era passenger focussed layout ...
They've released the F40PH "Cabbage" already! She's set-up for head-end use still! The 145 has been in a grade crossing accident last week, and dinged up the front plow pretty bad, so you guy's and gal's that got pics already, they are already rare!
From what I hear the 822 has been sneaking around on the Hoosier in bad weather. Here is one of the few pics I can find of it: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2437821 So far I can't seem to find any photos of the 406 all painted up, there was a youtube video that's been removed that was the talk on some other forums that showed it. Of course it was removed before I got to see it too.
A friend of mine took two undecorated Lagos and did the phase 1 and phase 3 . They look pretty awesome.
