Two "What if Fantasy" roads including locomotives, boxcars and coal cars. If I was not being careful I'd go for a pair of locos, dozen coal cars and several box cars. I love it.
I have no problem with it. That being said I will not buy them either. The only fantasy stuff I have bought over the years has been the MT navy stuff and USMC set. But if a manufactuer made the right fantasy locomotive such as a modern NP or GN I might consider it. Kevin
These and other fantisy stuff might appeal to some I suppose but I wouldn't be caught dead buying any of it. Just not my thing.
I don't buy fantasy stuff, but I must say Allen McClelland's Virginian & Ohio was such a phenomenal model railroad for its day that it seemed much more real to me than many other "prototype" layouts. The V&O had a huge influence on layout design and the hobby. So as an homage to Allen, this is actually kind of cool... Just MHO. Otto
If you do a bit of digging you'll find that these road names are the road names of two pretty renown modellers, Tony Koestler & Allen McClelland. Yes fictional but definitely not fantasy in light of the influence these two men have had on the hobby. Dave
Yes I know that these are done in their home road paint scemes and that they are excelent modelers and have iconic model railroads. They were inspirational to me when I was a young modeler just getting into the hobby. Like I said thats great and all that FMV is doing them and I'm sure people will buy them but I'm not modeling somebody elses fictional home road, I'm modeling the real thing. I'm also not a collector so these just don't appeal to me.
I'm going to have to look into the box cars. Since I pretty much grew up reading about the V&O and the AM, these would be nice to have for the memories.
I like the idea but those aren't my area of modeling; but I hope they keep it up and run some of the less known or fantasy roads for the western region of the US
Well, as Jim Conway of Con Cor would point out, if there is a market for dream schemes, then why not fill it? He sold a lot of strange stuff over the years and made money doing it. Some folks just want to have fun and don't care what other people think.
Would they be fantasy roads? Afterall, they were very real in the modeling sense and can be considered benchmark layouts.
I think I'm with you John. As much as I _want_ one each of the locos and corresponding packs of coal cars I will probably end up with a few of the box cars for the sake of nostalgia.
I personally don't care what word is used. If somebody wants to convince the mods to change the title by all means do so.
The locos are too modern for my era (early 70s & 80s), but I think the boxcars would fit right in. I think I was reading about them around in the 70s and 80s.

That maybe true however it sure is targeting a small sector of the market none the less. A brave move in a horrible economy for a manufacturer. Just my humble opinion. I've only purchased Intermountain USAF Fantasy pieces myself. Plus only the hardcore collectors have knowledge of which you mention. But then most of them have that kind of $$$$
Exactly and as we all know he's been at it now for 20 to 30 some years. So there is money in it. And that was before the NSC :tb-smile:
