Hello all !! I'm new on this forum, so i dont know where is the best place to post my presentation ... My name is Jean-François but my friend call me Jef or JF.I'm 29 year old and do model railroad since 17 years. I'm working on an N scale layout 8'*6' called the Turtle Field Railroad. It's a monolithic open grid bench work in plywood. Control of trains is made by a DCC station and trains roll on peco code 55 tracks. The scenery represent a "possible" junction station on the D&RGW. The Turtle Field town: A small video : I started construction in year 2003 and it's still in construction. Here is the frame work : The track plan is very simple, but le layout is designed to be upgraded in futur. The goal of this plan was to run long trains in small place and to broke the oval traditional shape of small layout : There is a small classic DC control pannel to drive turnouts with push butons. A small industrial PLC switch the trunouts to the desired position :
Very nice! Great video. Your plan "style" is called a "folded dog bone" versus an "oval" or "loop to loop" or other. It's an excellent way to keep things moving through lots of terrain.
Looks good Jef. Just a little advice, to us SP fans, that one GE loco looks a little odd. The SP tended to run them out on the road as mainline loco's, not as a local engine. They liked to use SW1500's, SD7/9E's, GP9E's and GP35E's in pairs for locals. Here is a picture of the two GP9E's that were used in Anahiem, CA (near Disneyland) as local power in the late 1980's. I watched them pull 10 car trains.
Thank's a lot for the pics and the details !! My layout is designed to fit era from 1950 to the end of the seventees. But when i like a newest loco i buy it and roll with it. It will hurt some purist but i enjoy it ... :tb-embarrassed: I think you will enjoy better with this sort of power ? :tb-biggrin:
Welcome aboard Jef. The layout looks great! You do very nice work. You just need to get some stuff dirty! Craig
