Well, since this thread has been resurrected... Here's two I bought a few months ago. I've had the GG1 for awhile.
Old 4-4-0 from Bachmann, made in Hongkong and here after the instalation of a DZ125 im not satisfied with the coal an will optimize this later. Running with the decoder is for such an old loco ok.
For Kato shells I always use 91% alcohol. I have had very bad luck with any of the commercial strippers like Chameleon, Scalecoate and others can cause the ABS plastic that Kato uses to become brittle.
HI philip h also warm the 91% alcohol to 80 or 90 degres and all the paint will come off . i striped 2 up sd70ace shells and now they look like undec's. no paint left on at all like the sd40-2 in the pic. the up paint came off in 5 min. the flag and shelds took a a little longer.
What he said...I mean how else do some of us have almost 40? Getting them for a good price on ebay, that is a challenge...esp when many are selling used ones for over $80 each.
That Kato model looks like a "snoot nose". Are the walkways and sil the same as the regular SD40-2? Jason
In my defense I never said "rare". I guess what you said is sort of what I meant in my original post, most folks won't give them up for less than a small fortune since they are NLA. I more or less meant "hard to find at the right price with black trucks etc, etc." For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-KAT...713948?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e741777dc Well I am going to find out. I was told by fellow TB members the decks and rails are the same on the snoots and short noses. I haven't ordered the high nose yet so I haven't been able to line anything up yet. Also the above long hood has the right grilles for the proto I am modelling. This will be my first bashing project of a loco so I'm by no means an expert.
Just picked up 2 AB sets of IM ATSF "Catwisker" FTs from Verne Niner. Fine gentleman and a pleasure to do business with. These are beautiful units that I have had my eye on for quite some time. Below are similar units running on Verne's layout.
Intermountain AC-8 and AC-10 with sound. Silver Streak Zephyr with all three E5A units from Kato. Bachmann 4-6-0 (ten wheeler). Santa made some early deliveries this year.
LHS had a congsignment sale and I picked up a new Walthers/LL GP-18 (Rock Island) and a lightly run GP-382/2 (SP) for $29 each.
DCC units Bachmann Spectrum GE Dash 8-40/CW #4001 and #4002 in my N scale model railroad name "Willamette Regional Railway"
