According to all the sources I can find, Oregon Coast Scenic has two of their steamers somewhere in Centralia, WA. Anyone know where and if they are photographable?? Thanks.
John, two steam locomotives were moved to the Chehalis/Centralia "yard" in either 2008 or 2009. At the time I read about where they came from, who they belonged to, etc. but of course didn't record any of it. I shot these last fall and they are out in the open and easily photographed. The 2-6-6-2 and 2-8-0 have no visible numbers. I have a vague memory of them being on "display" somewhere in Washington, and I DON'T remember them being identified as property of the OCS. Hope this helps.
Oh, how would this logging nut just LOVE to see that 2-6-6-2 in steam again. As far as I know Oregon Coast Scenic has their Heisler in Garibaldi, Oregon, but maybe I missed the memo somewhere. To get anything out, it'd have to be trucked as the Port of Tillamook Bay has been severed from the rest of the rail network by washouts.
I'm wondering if those came from Shelton? Some of the stuff Pete Replinger had there? Could that 2-6-6-2T perhaps be the Rayonier #8? Maybe that other one is the CC&C #25? Boxcab E50
Guys, I found an old email from Martin Hansen, and the 2-8-0 is "Big Jack" and was moved only from Centralia. :tb-biggrin:
Not the ones I'm looking for but I like! From Steamlocomotives.com: #23 28ton Shay2Tr 4'-8½" Stimson Mill Co Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, Centralia, WA restoration From Chehalis, WA then Tillamook, OR #5 62ton Heisler 2 Tr 4'-8½" Buffelen LumberOregon Coast Scenic Railroad, Centralia, WA stored from Tacoma City Watershed, Eagle Gorge, WA, to Tillamook, OR
Here are the listings for the two in the photos above: #25 2-8-0 4'-8½" CC&C Chehalis-Centralia Railroad, Chehalis, WA display From Fort Borst Park, W of I5, Centralia #8 2-6-6-2T 4'-8½" RLC Chehalis-Centralia Railroad, Chehalis, WA display from Shelton, WA The Heislers and Shays listed as being at Garibaldi/Tillamook are different ones than the ones above.
John, I emailed Martin and he said both locomotives are indeed in Centralia, but I sure don't know where. Ask some locals when you are there. I will be in the vicinity early next month and may try to find them. :tb-confused:
Both are at the shops in Centralia used by OCSRR for their locmotive re-building. Contact me directly and I can tell you how to visit them. Martin
I know EXACTLY where these 2 locos are currently located. They are both located at the Chehalis-Centralia RR shops, which is in the former location of the Weyco reload in Chehalis, which is right alongside of I-5. The 2-6-6-2T is in fact Rayonier #8 and I have photos of her being loaded on a flatcar in Shelton. My uncle was actually the person that owned the Cat bulldozer that they used to load her onto the flatcar to make her journey to Chehalis. As far as I know there are no future plans to resotore her in the near future. However, the #25 (former CC&C #25) that was on display at Borst park in Centralia is planned to be restored in the near future to be used on the Chehalis-Centralia RR. I do not know though if the plans are to restore her in Chehalis or move her to Elbe to be refurbished at Mt Rainier scenic or not. I hope this helps.
Yes, I plan on shooting these and know their location. The ones I'm trying to hunt down are different. Hopefully Martin will get back to me in time for my trip. Thanks tho.
