Okay, I didn't see this in any other support threads... I just posted a response in a thread, and realized about 10 seconds after I hit the "submit" button I hadn't quoted both of the posts I was responding to. The software wouldn't allow me to add the second quote, and it wouldn't let me delete my post so I could start over. This all happened within a 3-5 minute span, it's not like I came back the next day/week to change it. Is there a reason we can't delete our own posts? I even looked back in that thread, and no one else had posted after me, either. My post looks kind of stupid hanging out there with a "I tried to delete this post because it didn't make sense and couldn't" message in it.
You can't delete the post but you can edit it. When you edit, there is a minimum of 10 characters required (I think). I just put a line of periods like this. [...................] Then you can make another, new post after that. No worries.
Terry, I bumped into this a few years back. I found that I could delete what I wrote and then simply state something like. I wasn't happy with my response or what I wrote...so, I edited it. In one case I was advised by good friends of a problem and deliberately went back and deleted my comments. It happens and it's no big deal.
Okay, I thought I was doing something wrong. The software wouldn't let me re-quote after I pulled the content, I guess I could have copied and pasted the quoted text, if it were worth the trouble. At least I know now it isn't just me, even though the screwup fairy has been running rampant at my house this weekend... The latest was me falling on my laptop, smashing it... Anybody wants to see what the inside on an LCD screen looks like, I can post pictures...
Terry: FYI...I can use the quote button to quote only your text in a post, like I did above. Note Ken's (BoxcabE50's) quote is not included when the Quote button is clicked. OR I can select text from a post, copy it, hit the Reply button, and then paste the text into my reply and put in the proper code for quoting something: the word, "Quote", in brackets without the quote marks at the start of the text to be quoted, and "/Quote" in brackets without quote marks after the text to end the quote. If I want to include Ken's quote, I can nest the code for quoting his text inside the code for quoting your text. (I added "Ken said:" and "Terry said:" to keep things clear in my reply. When you use the Quote button or the Multiple Quote button, TB automatically identifies who made the post that is quoted, but when you code the quote yourself, you may want to add the attributions for clarity.) OR Suppose I don't use the Multiple Quotes button to automatically enter quotes from several posts in the thread into my reply, or in the case where I want to enter quotes from posts from several different threads, I can open a second window in FireFox or Internet Explorer or other browser so I have a tab/page for my Reply to Topic window and a second tab/page on which I can navigate to the specific quotes in the thread (or even text in other Trainboard forums or other websites) I wish to select/copy/paste into my reply. I can add quotes sequentially or nested, as I wish, using the proper code in brackets to start or end the quote.
My biggest electronic goof for a while was sending an email to someone with references to an attachment and then sending it before I remembered to attach the attachment. Whoops.
