Eh. I like the Badge detail and stuff, but it's still just Yellow and Gray and Borg all over. The great thing about the Heritage units was that they very very clearly did not look like Armor Yellow and Gray bores.
I have to agree. I was hoping for some serious red white and blue, or at least some solid olive and khaki. I'm glad they did it, but I'm underwhelmed with the actual paint scheme.
Maybe they can get CSX to do a Cub Scout themed one. Or, since we call the Santa Fe Freight Warbonnet a Cubscout, maybe they could do one as a Heritage unit. Or just grab and un-repainted SD40-2 and put some Fleur de les on it.
I'd be willing to bet that the driving force behind it being fairly standard would actually be the Heritage units as the graphics are not only EXPENSIVE but have to be completely replaced anytime they are damaged. Plus the paint has to be kept onhand to fix too where if it was standard paint it wouldn't be hard to get.
I’m not really into the Union Pacific diesels, but with all the attention this one was getting, I was starting to think it was going to be like a heritage unit. Oh well, hope the boy scouts like it.err:
Hmmm? With all the hipe and that fancy UP 2010 tarp that was on it, I expected something a little more colorful. Well, at least for those who want to model it, it won't be too difficult. Yep, I liked the tarped version...It would make for a much more interesting model and it lets the mind wander through endless paint scheme possibilities.
I'm disappointed...mostly because my expectations were much higher. I miss SP Gray and MP Jenks Blue Dip (sigh)
