It is a AC45CCTE painted up in commemoration of the Boy Scouts anniversary. no clue what it looks like though.
Awesome! Can't wait to see it! I don't suppose UP and BSA will authorize a model version? I would buy one in just about any scale.
If you put on your X ray goggles you can see it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vikSrg1ACgI&feature=sub
You know, I had never seen nor even heard of an AC45CCTE before you mentioned it. I had to Google search to see what the loco looks like. It's basically a GEVO with an attitude!
It's not quite that Cool. And the above is slightly wrong Union Pacific for a very long time has told GE they can take their dumb loco names and shove it. UP calls an AC4400CW with the traction control software which is what the CTE stands for) a C44ACCTE. When the GEVOs came out, UP needed a way to designate them even though from a TE standpoint they were essentially the same. Hence C45ACCTE. In other words, they are in fact just GEVOs. I'm also pretty sure UP still calls Dash 9s C44-9s not Dash 9-44CWs. UP AC4400CWs with out the controlled Tractive Effort software are designated C44AC UP's AC6000CWs were similarly C60AC Basically, UP didn't like when GE changed their naming scheme.
It drives me nuts when people call the UP units ES44AC's, granted they are BUT, the side of the cab says AC45CCTE so, thats what I call them. Its totaly irrelevant, just stating why I posted it that way. no harmn no foul. Thanks YoHO for posting that, I was out for a 12 hour railfan day and just got finished with all the photos.
To clarify, because, if you do a google search, it's wrong all over the frickin place. it should be C45ACCTE The AC is after the number not at the beginning. This is to match the original C44-9, C40-8, B23-7 GE nominclature. As I said, in a google search or on many of the image sites, you'll see it wrong just as often as you'll see it right, but this is correct. I'll provide 2 exceedingly bad photos to prove it.
This is a C44AC (aka AC4400CW) This is a unit going by me at 30+MPH at Vancouver Wa This is a C45ACCTE This is somewhere between Tucson and Yuma on the Sunset. It's going much much faster. It's hard to read, but its pretty obvious the first letter is a C, not an A.
The UP 2010 will be unvieled here in Houston on March 31st 11am till Noon at a cermony at the Amtrak station. It shouldn't be too hard for me to show up with a camera, and, of course, I'll post pictures that evening.
Looks like it's official now: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?p=683047#post683047 Anybody get to see it in person? Doesn't look like it would be too hard to custom paint - pretty close to standard Armor Yellow with some extra decals.
