Also, this thread might have done better in the inspection pit.

Same with Z scale. Most of the Z scale members open their Trainboard to the Z scale Home Page. Thus they would be unaware of this poll. If they all voted you could add another 20 or so. Same with other scales. Because this Poll is not posted on scale home pages it is close to meaningless. Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44

Don't worry Jim, I plan to post something in each forum to draw attention to the poll each week; starting the G since they are only showing 1 vote and I know there are more of them too...

I'm tinkering with HO Scale but G-Scale all the way. The Bigger They Are....I don't think I should finish that sentence xD

I picked N, Narrow Gauges and Other.

The complete list of what I am currently working on is:

    Nn3 (& Nm)
    N
    HOn30
    OO9 (1:76 scale, 9mm gauge)
    O9 (1:43 or 7mm scale, 9mm gauge)
    O14 (1:43 or 7mm scale, 14mm gauge)

I have some Z and HO standard gauge and some Gn15 (1/2" scale on HO gauge track) stuff that I might get rid of or convert to some other scale...

Isn't there a way to make this thread appear across all boards?

Obviously, N scale is the big winner here, and to think that the manufacturers will not
    produce the models we want.....like

    GP-60M & GP-60B what's going on with these in N scale ?

not much yet !!!!! We'll put a change to that !!!!!!

    N Scale here.
Do you think the high N Scale numbers are because more N Scale fans are attracted to TrainBoard or are they indicative of a shift in the industry?

I believe its a little bit of both.

I was talking with my father about this after a recent train show. I live in on the west coast where space is often a high priced commodity (consider that my entire apartment is smaller than the average layout rooms shown here). I notice about 60-70% N Scale at the shows here. My father lives in the Midwest and has a full basement at his disposal. He says its about 80-90% HO scale at the recent show he attended. If you wanted to take it farther, one could say in San Francisco, a person is more likely to have a job related to computers, therefore more likely to visit TrainBoard. And with that limited space, they're also more likely to choose a small scale.

For all the years I've been here, I agree with Mark, it's a combination. I think another big factor is the N-scaler persecution complex. And it's justified.

N-scalers have been under appreciated in the major industry publications for a long time. So it's natural for people in that scale looking for a community to band together at alternative locations. Trainboard fits the bill perfectly. We also have a large Z-scale population I think for the very same reason.

Being an HO guy, you don't need to seek out other forms of comraderie. Not that there isn't tons upon tons of value to people in any scale on Trainboard, I just think there's less incentive to seek it out.

As an aside, and I complain about this often. I think it's funny that we were admonished earlier in the thread that many of the n and z scalers link directly to the scale specific forum.

That's a pet peeve of mine. 90% of the skills involved in making model railroads have nothing to do with scale at all and yet people naturally exclude themselves from the other scale specific forums here AND from the group forums.

    It makes me sad.

So far we've got 23 Z Scalers showing - Cool!!!!!!! [IMG]

See, I told you I would draw attention to the poll and get you Z Scale folks out of your forum at least to vote. See, it's nice out here in the other forums too...

YH, thank you for slapping my wrist. Sadly, I am one of your pet peevers (peevees?). For absolutely no good, logical, or rational reason I participate only in the N-Scale Forum (where scale is concerned).

Scolding gratefully accepted. Change, though difficult at my age, will occur....:tb-embarrassed:

I agree. By linking to just the one Forum, a lot is missed. A good idea can come in any size. Non scale specific ideas are constantly discussed in the Inspection Pit. DCC in that Forum, prototype activities, Layout Design,... So much more.
