Just wanted to say hello, I am new to the site. I built an HO layout a year or two back but ,being in my cold basement it just kinda slipped away. Now my wife gave me the OK to build up stairs in a unused spare bed room. The room is M/T but still going with a smaller layout to start. She says we never know when one of the kids may want to move back in,,, but, I'm pretty sure I know. When your a young adult and move out, you really don't want to head back to the nest. Anyway, Started a 3X5 N scale setup and this time I want to take my time and try to be ,,,,, crafty. Allot of good info here and look forward to building in a warm room with a TV. LOL, Good to meet you all. Joe

    Welcome, Joe!

Of my four daughters, three moved back in at least once. That's why one bedroom is now a library, and another is a second office.

    Joe-

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Glad you found a warm space available. Get it occupied, so move-backs are not possible. :D

    Have fun!

Thanks all, Yes, going to fill the room as quickly as poss. LOL.
Its kinda nice to have a room with windows, light, tv and HEAT. The room in the basement was finished but, never put heat down there. In the short time I've been here, looking, reading, learning, I have picked up so many tips I NEVER even thought of. Thanks again, joe

LOL. Well, I set her up with a hobby of her own, gardening. She loves to plant, which I like also. So I kinda put some time into her setup, building things for her hobby in our back mud room and..... well you know the rest.

Welcome, Joe. Kids these days....tsk! They have no compunction about moving back in with Mom & Dad. When they feel the pinch, they'll ask to come back. Been there.

If you build a layout of any size, make it breakable into two sections as a minimum so that you can unbolt it, separate wire connections, and horse the components into the garage for storage up on the joists/rafters.

Whoever said, "You can't go back," didn't have kids!

    Welcome at TrainBoard, Joe.

I can only underline, building a modular layout is a good starting idea.
