My wife gave me a couple hundred bucks for trains, I think I may use it toward a new Digitrax Duplex Throttle and Receiver.
I received an Athearn Rio Grande 2-6-0 from the GF. It is on the nineteenth century pike pulling her thirty four foot Rio Grande passenger cars (she bought an Atlas/MicroAce Rio Grande 2-6-0 when they first appeared and the Athearn cars to go with it). On the other track I put the MDC bumblebee 2-8-0 that I acquired for an incredibly good price at the last Timonium, Maryland show. Behind it I put several of the wood cars that she has given me over the years; my foobie bumblebee caboose completes the train. All this and I do not even model the Rio Grande. That is not a major problem. My nineteenth century pike is a generic scene. The trains will change, as I have equipment lettered for roads from all over the country. The trains will change, the scene will not. She likes it when she see her gifts put to use. Some of the buildings that will be on the pike are kits that she gave me a while back. Now I must buy either the Athearn fifty foot Rio Grande passenger cars or either of the old MDC Rio Grande cars. While on the subject of recent nineteenth century acquisitions, does anyone know if either Athearn or MDC issued either the 2-8-0 or 2-6-0 in ACL? I recently acquired a set of thirty four foot MDC ACL passenger cars. .......Or will I need to buy a decal sheet and do one myself?
Wouldn't you know.... I got myself the Kato El Cap and then my son on his own gets me one for Christmas, dang that is the kind of problems I like to have...... Oh well, one will be eastbound and the other west..... cheers.
I was a good boy and Robin is going to let me get one of these: And I got myself one of these: I loved these Chaparrel 2E's as a kid and Jim Hall (the creator) was the first man to try wings and spoilers as well as ground effects on race cars. Mike
Wife put the message out to the friends & relatives some time ago: "Give Mark GIFT CERTIFICATES from SCALE REPRODUCTIONS(my LHS)" And that's what I get. Have over $300 in Gift Certificates now and a few more coming. I'll hold on to them until Scale has a 20% off sale and THEN cash them in!!
Man everybody got trains but me, Trains come out of my custom paint money! Oh well, I box a XBox well my son did but I have played it more than him so far!!! A new Dremel set that I deperately needed, and the last but definately not least I fiannly got the Brunswick pool table I have been asking for for since me and the wife got married 15 years ago!!!! Well trains are taking a sideline for a few weeks until i get the bar built and the man cave/ garage set up.
Received six of the IM ATSF CE-1 rebuilds. Great to have this caboose produced. Very nice detail. My only critique is the window glazing being placed over the top of the openings.
Got a few pieces of Atlas C55 flex, some foam roadbed, C55 #7 turnout, paints, and some styrene square stock.
Received the El Cap. and add on cars.Traincat SP Bay window caboose kit. Plus a gift certificate to my LHS. Pretty cool stuff
No trains for me, but some very useful modeling stuff!!! I got 2 cordless Dremels and a bit set from my grandparents. My parents gave me a Dremel workstation drillpress (very handy for drilling #80 holes for details!) and a new air compresser for airbrushing. My Lady gave me my entire MicroMark wishlist consisting of: Digital level in degrees and percent grade, Digital scale with 1/4 oz. lead waits to weight my rolling stock, How model trains are made DVD, And their car card routing kit and extra forms. Here parents gave me a new desk lamp for the workbench and a "Historical Atlas of North American Railroads." Overall a good Christmas!! Hope everyone had a wonderful time with their family!!!
Not exactly a Christmas gift, but I got four Intermountain tank car kits on ebay(.de) at quite good prices. Together with my other unbuilt kits I should start a big building session now Only problem: I will run out of trucks...
We bought the kids a Wii so they had to get me the Cheatah(Tiger) Woods Golf '10. I wonder if it includes all his prefered side games? My wife bought me a Concor GS4 Daylighter for Christmas a few years back but I have heard some negative things about it for adding sound. So, I ordered up a Kato GS4 Dalighter with sound, the 10-car set, close coupling kit, and the car lighting kit. Not cheap but I will sell the DCC equiped Concor loco and 9 cars to cushion that hit. Only issue is I ordered on the 15th but have nat recieved it yet. I was told I should have before the end of the month. Perfect for the Anahiem show on the 2nd and 3rd.
I got three atlas GM&O GP38-2's then my wife got me an Intermountain F3B unit which really surprised me cause I know I can't find a F3A unit since they are out of production now I have to turn over every rock to try to find one. The third pic is a set of Proto Lifel Like FA1 and FB1 I already installed micro train couplers on this, I'm still waiting for a set of proto Life Like Alco Rs-2's and a Alco PA1.
I got a couple Centrailia Car Shops Golden State cars, and an Intermountain Rock Island FT A/B set. Also a Fedora...
I got my Christmas present a few days early..... A 1:1 scale son........ Can't wait to see all the loot he gets next year!!
The only one who'd consider buying me train stuff is my wife, but we've been going through really lean times with our business. Most of the other adults in my family roll their eyes at my hobby. My wife is glad that my hobby is not socially destructive nor illegal. Our big gift to ourselves was the installation of our wood stove, which keeps us warm. This is by far the best present we could have gotten for ourselves. More relevant to modeling I DID find room in our gift budget to, ahem, grab an airbrush compressor for myself. Now, if I want to do some airbrushing in the evening I don't have to consider my neighbors' needs for sleep when firing up the big old compressor in the garage, and I don't have to route a hose down the driveway and in through the basement window and into regulator/filter #2, and from there to the airbrush. Nope.
Well, this is not exactly a Christmas gift. But, close... My custom-made decals came in the mail on the 23rd (my Brithday!!!). Now I don't need to "hack up" my FCN decals to decal my Leasing stuff. Hope the rest of you got what you wanted, or something close... Jerry G.
