More Layout Construction After a couple of years I became energetic enough to complete one of the last two areas of my layout without scenery. I was agonizing about roads, streets, and connections when I decided to pave the whole thing. After all, it is an industrial area. The yellow paper with the push pins will serve as a template for the .060" styrene base. It's about time. I have been running too many trains and making models.
Not really my workbench, but things to do: there are two lines of resin cars waiting to be built, as can be seen here: Since I have to order them in the U.S. and they are not always available at the dealers, I tend to buy some more in reserve in case some are ruined by my building skills :tb-embarrassed: The train in front has cars from different manufacturers, including 3 resin kits I built.
Good for me. I'm working on the layout two days in a row. I have cut the .060 inch styrene (from a 4 x 8 foot sheet) and it is under the yellow paper. Next I cut floor plans of the five proposed industries from blue paper and set them on the yellow paper. I will move them around, operate trains a little, add roads, loading docks, etc. and see how my industrial area works before making the structures and fastening the styrene to the base. I plan for the buildings to be fairly modern construction.
I have just about finished my first ever n scale structure. I have yet to apply decals (never done that before either) or affix the roof. Regardless, I'm happy with how it turned out. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/attachment.php?attachmentid=40116&d=1318396029 http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/attachment.php?attachmentid=40117&d=1318396038
Nice station, Locohorn! Here's one I whipped up this morning while trying to stay awake (early rising kids today): And here's the prototype: I still need to weather it and add a few more details (downspouts, roof supports, etc.) but this was a fun model to build. To design it, I imported windows, doors, signs and other details from my own photos. Measurements were made by measuring pixels in a photo editing program based on a known quantity (I measured a stop sign next to it, standard 24-incher). I also got the cross-members on the water tower: And I helped my son build a little diorama based on an old garden shack in our area:
The N-scale freelance Albany & Mississinewa Valley has always liked the blue N&W units of the late 1960's. Not finding any at model train shows some of the inventory was painted into the N&W scheme. On the workbench are a Bachman F7 and a Atlas GP9 Torpedo Tube. Previous Life Like and Minitrex FM H-12-44 Bob J.
Got a little further on my GP60M and GP60B. Progress is slow but I think I might be able to shoot some paint on them this weekend. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
