    Cars

I've seen what cars they're using. And they're Old American Orient Express Cars. Currently being modified to be used with Colorado Skiers.

Interesting to read those comments left with that page. Very sad to see how little people know about trains, or the costs of doing business.

    No doubt about that...

Assumptions that Anshutz owns Union Pacific

Most of the commentors do not realize the Ski Train DID run during the Summer.

Commentors making assumptions that the Ski Train wasn't sold out.

Which is too bad, those posts show a small sampling of what the general public thinks of the Ski Train.

I rode the Ski Train for snowboarding and while it IS a huge relief for traveling I-70 and Berthoud Pass, the expense is rather high for the convienence. On top of that you still need lift tickets at 90+ bucks unless you have season passes or other discounted tickets.

I would propose that if Winter Park wants the Ski Train they offer severly discounted tickets, under $40. With a train ticket running 50-60 dollars and a ticket in the 40 range, $100 plus food isn't all that bad then. Far better than 60 for train and 95 for lift ticket, and you still need 20 or more for food.

Anyone have pics of the big MACs?

Ski Train in SLRG paint? That should look interesting in South Boulder Canyon!

Those may well be the first six-axle locos over La Veta Pass in a loooooooong time.

Are they going to use them over La Veta Pass?

I know they were specifically purchased for Ski Train duty right? But I suppose it would be a waste for the engines to sit from April to December unused, unless... they have plans for a Summer Ski Train as well.

    Hmmm...

I honestly do not care for the maroon, but it is very nice to see the big RIO GRANDE on the side of the hoods.

And as I stated in an earlier post, the fares for this season's ski train are EXTREMELY reasonable! I have my eyes on the overnight package... round trip train ticket, lift ticket and lodging for $139 a person!

Well, recently the SLRG bought a pair of SD40-2's aswell as a Ex/ DRGW SD40T-2.
The SLRG does freight service on the track to connect with the UP/BNSF. So im sure if they're not on the ski train, they'll be doing some work!

I've seen pictures, it isn't pretty like the old one painted Grand Gold and silver, but at least skiers have a train to ride.

The New Colorado Ski Train (pics)

On my way back from a client in north Denver, I swung by Union Station and found the power for the "new" Colorado Ski train. 2 SD90MACs. I was able to get a shot of the cars when they were moving them as well. Of particular note (to me) is the 2 Milwaukee Road cars! A full dome and a coach! Very cool!

    Update: 12-18

The two new SLRG SD9043MAC's have arrived in Denver Union Station. They're sitting at the northern end of the western most trackage. Rumor has it, the FRA and Amtrak will be conductiong a test run (wendsday the 23rd) before its inagural run shortly after Christmas!

You need to give credit where credit is due and not try to pass the info off as your own...

    http://www.drgw.net/ has the scoop.

This is very interesting indeed. Nice to see that another company has stepped up to the plate to perform some service.
