Dave, We've already heard from Joe that he thinks your idea is a great one and I think so too. You get extra atta boys for your great idea. Yes, I'll be doing tree making demos and offering several special boxes of trees as prizes and maybe other items too. This just keeps getting better and better.
if MTL could supply some shells, and if someone would make the decals, i'd bash a couple of Santa Fe SD40-2 snoot shells for the cause. is that something anyone would want? i especially like glenns idea of a paint booth sponsored by Badger! i'd like them to come out and PROVE that a person can actually paint with the colored crap they make. (was that too harsh? if you think so, have you ever actually tried to use the stuff?) dave f.
David, nothing so simple as a snoot nose. We all want the tunnel motor conversion. I dont think you will even have time to take a break. Yep! just tunnel motor conversions through out the convention.
For you east-coasters out there, I've been doing a little bit of research on the costs of flights (just through airlines directly) from Harrisburg, PA (MDT) to Rogue Valley International(MFR- Medford). Naturally, I have to make two connections, but prices are only about $435 round trip (dep 4/29, ret 5/4). A long day of travel, but really not too bad. Dan S.
john: tunnel motors? who knows if they can even be done? dan: i just got through checking flights myself from denver. LO AND BEHOLD!!!! there is a non-stop flight from denver to medford. but it leaves at 6a.m. sunday morning. after joe and loren have danced into the evening -- who will be awake or willing to get me to the airport by 5am? still $420 seems to the current going price for me. dave f.
Dave, it's like flying into Montrose or Durango. It's nice to fly all the way but you can also fly to major airports with more options like Sacramento, CA (SAC) or Portland, OR (PDX) and drive 4-6 hours. If you fly to the San Francisco Bay Area, (SFO, OAK or SJC), its about a 6 hour drive but you can nite over and drive up with one of us. That may save you. .
Not too harsh! I forget when Modelflex was first introduced, may have been a NTS/NMRA or Ntrak convention clinic. They had a supply of cheap LL or Athearn boxcars to practice on. They may have the magic formula of wet water to make the paint work. Not sure what brand of paint is accurate. There may be other ideas for folks traveling some distance to spend a week in Oregon!
Dave, I'm only 2 miles from the airport and I'll be glad to get you and anyone else to the airport if they need early morning transportation. Most likely you would be staying at Ramada where the convention is held and it's on my way to the airport anyway. Believe me, you don't want to see Joe in his robe either. He'll embarrass you when he brings his teddy bear and Binky toy with him. )
Now that the convention is public, would it be possible for someone to post the mailing that was sent out. I sort of belong to two different groups, and still haven't seen one yet. Thanks. Dan S.
Dan, It is my understanding that the new Micro News will announce the convention to the general customer base. The first letter was sent by Eric Smith to the dealers and manufacturers stating MTLs intentions and inviting the dealers and manufacturers to email or call him if we had any questions. So, we should all know officially by next Monday.
I'll see if I can get a hold of the email and forward it. We did our best to put together a list of all the organizations and mfgs...forgot a few for sure. Joe
Thanks Joe (and Loren). I can wait until the official announcement. I think both of the groups I belong to did get the notice, I just haven't had any real contact with them since. I'm not even sure if I can make it yet. A lot depends on my employment and finabcial situation over the next few months. I was just curious ( I was also interested in the hotel info, etc.) If I can stay at the hotel hosting the convention, I probably don't even need a rental car (if they have airport shuttles). Every dollar counts. Thanks again. Dan S.
I was right Dan, a general announcement came in today's Micro News. It will be in the PDF format when you get the news. Not much other than a general announcement. Details coming soon it says...........
The show will be at the Ramada and it's about 1/2 mile from the airport. There are enough of us there to make sure everyone gets to and from there if the shuttle isn't running. There is also a Motel 6 across the road from the show...we'll have a good deal for the convention hotel, but I wold assume Motel 6 will be cheeper. Joe MTL
Pardon a MRR Noob, but I have not done the "convention" thing before - What can be expected ( what should I plan on, how much money is this going to cost, what airlines serve Medford, Oregon ) ?
To answer your last question first, United flies from Denver to Medford non-stop. Or you can fly on Delta through Salt Lake Ciy. I'd say bring ALL the money you have, help our economy here in the Rogue Valley. Plan on lots of train fun, food, and entertainment. ---Steve from the other Phoenix
Well, if ( that's a big 'IF' ) I can make it, I'll probably come in on Delta, as the wife works for them and family gets free flights ( on standby of course ). As to the money part, last spring I was facing the possibility of personal bankruptcy, and while the finances have improved, money is still a little thin, so everything has to be budgeted - thus the reason I asked about costs ( and wondering if something like this could be done on a budget ).
