Has anyone ever scratch built a turnout? If so what tools did you use and please include pics if you have.
Have never done so but I do know that you can get everything that you would need from a company called Fast Tracks. Here is the link to their web site. Hope that this helps you out. Hand Laid Track Made Easy : Fast Tracks Model Railroad Tools & Supplies, 1-888-252-3895
Pastoolio posted a How-To thread in the N-Scale forum on scratchbuilding turnouts. The technique applies to any scale. Here is the link: Handlaying a turnout the old fashioned way - TrainBoard.com
I've soldered my turnouts and crossings. My How To at my homepage scratchbuild turnouts and here SILVER CREEK project - TrainBoard.com. Wolfgang
I've built lots but don't have any how to do it photos. I'd suggest you check out CVT(central valley) for their switch kits and proto87 stores for their regular HO switch kits . These two are better looking and easier than scratch built switches and they don't cost much more when you add up the ties and spikes needed.
