What's the story on that little yellow switcher? Interesting to see white paint on the sideframes. I wonder why?
Since the museum was closed I was unable to get any history on any of the units. After some internet research it appears that the yellow 44 ton switcher is serial number / builder number 13098. It was built July of 1941 and went into service for the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Dayman, IA. It was then used by the US Army as number 7310, then the US Air Force under the same number. Prior to coming to the museum the switcher was operated by the US Marine Corp as number 248236. Ben
Well we just headed up to North Platte, NE for the 2012 Rail Fest. Here are a few photos to get things started. A BNSF coal train along I-76. A BNSF grain train along I-76. These are hard to photograph from the car! One of the U.P. trucks outside of our hotel. A CNW hopper in North Platte. Ben
A few photos of the many displays at the park. Up next will be the 844 and all 6 of the U.P. Heritage Units! Ben
Ken, my guess is pulling a 5th wheel trailer of some sort. I'm guessing there's a 5th wheel hitch hidden ouf of view in the tail of that truck.
Sweet trailer!!! The mini train is stored in Cheyenne last I knew--in converted baggage cars mounted on permanent concrete foundations.
Having toured the yard twice previously we decided to skip the tour this year and just drive over to the diesel shop. UP 2010 & 7400 The front of the heritage line up. Ben
