Dollywood has a beautiful ex-White Pass and Yukon narrow gauge 2-8-2 at the park. The park is actually there because of this locomotive if you really trace back the history of it. I enjoyed riding behind her several times over three days. Listening to her work up the 4-6% grade on the run was very awesome. Here's some pictures I took on some of the trips, and around the park while everyone else was standing in line to ride the coasters. (I did ride all the coasters myself, but steam is still King. )
These next shots are just various detail shots. There is just something about a steam locomotive that is just plain beautiful. Enjoy.....
Brass.....when these were made, was it realised what a beautiful sound or look they would have for years and years?
The water tower.....something that was a necessity when these were running all over America. Now, so many years later, they still have a look all their own.
Jerry, very interesting photo spread. Let's see, 192 was one of the US Military engines I believe, and may have spent some time on the White Pass & Yukon. I, like you, got to see her run at Dollywood back in 1993. I got out behind the crossing gates with my video camera and got yelled at and booted out of there. No tolerance for railfans!! I guess I was breaking one of their rules. Do they still have the aviary and sanctuary for injured eagles at Dollywood? :tb-biggrin:
I took alot of video, and they were all very friendly with me. I talked with the crews all three days I was there, swapping steam stories. Yes, the eagles are still there. Awesome, large birds!
Here's some of the video I shot..... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqr8CKmyPOM"]YouTube - DollywoodVacationMay2324252009 043[/ame]
