This week we are focusing on VIDEO! This contest is for MODELING videos. Please follow this link to the simultaneous Prototype challenge. *Please read all rules as they may have changed from previous weeks* If you notice a typo, error, or confusing statement, please notify Mr. Train or Mystere immediately for correction and clarification. Topic: "Run By" Video Contest Rules: This challenge will close at 10:00 PM Pacific Standard Time Wednesday April 22nd 2009 and will be noted with a "Time's up!" post within the thread. Please use the challenge as a motive to take a new video rather than using one that you have taken in the past. Challenges are open to everyone, have fun!! Though not required, commenting on other peoples videos is encouraged. Only one video per participant so please choose carefully. Please choose the Cutting Room Floor Thread to share the videos that did not make the cut. Any posts with videos taken before the commencement of the challenge will NOT be included for voting. For videos to be eligible they must be recorded between the April 17th and April 22nd 2009. Ensure dates and times on your camera are correct. Videos must be under 3 minutes so that no one must spend hours going through videos for judging. The topic this week is "Run By" Make sure to allow time for editing your video and uploading it. Don't wait till the last minute and find the poll closed before your video finishes uploading. Please follow instructions on this thread for recommendations and instructions for working with video files online and posing them to TrainBoard.
Ok, I'll start the ball rolling with a short (just over a minute long vid) of action on my N scale layout. Two roll by's for the price of one, first a BNSF freight followed by a U.P. coal train. Enjoy! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om3i4p8-lzc"]YouTube - Broken Ridge Roll By[/ame]
Nice Ken! Here's mine. A double header steam pulling some freight. 10 bonus points if you can guess my favorite drink. ;-) Double Header Steam Run By (MPEG-4) on Vimeo
Hmmm.... I spy with my little eye something begining with S... Love the double headed steamers, get me wondering what they would look like on my layout, and that maybe I should add some steam to my loco roster.
D&H Passenger Well, since I don't have a layout, I offer this Video of some of my HO D&H Passenger equipment in a simulated Run-By via multiple still shots... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnSjStQlq58 TrainBoard Contest 2009-04-19
First across the new bridge I slapped down some track just so I could record something to submit. Short coal train crossing my new bridge over my new river on my new layout. I used the dryer behind me to add a "rumble"... :tb-tongue: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vlcz_IdlzI"]YouTube - First across the new bridge[/ame]
Well, barely. I dusted some brown chalk on it just to take the "new" off, but it's far from weathered.
Westbound empty's over the mountain Alright then, heres mine! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdp1X97cIGg Westbound emptys across the N scale Door Layout. The first shot is of the train rolling around a curve and over the bridge while the second shot is of it heading through a cut in the rain. I had some fun editing that!
How is everyone's videos coming along? We have some great submissions so far, but no where near the number of videos I've seen posted elsewhere on the boards this week. Hopefully this means you're just editing and perfecting some final touches. 5 videos so far, if we can get 10 all be happy, 15 or more and I'll be ecstatic! Remember, if you're having troubles, visit this thread for some recommended video tips, and be sure to ask questions if your trouble is not covered. We want as many participants as possible and we're here to help.
Mark, I'd love to be in both the photo and video modeling challenges, but my layout is still benchwork. One day though, I'll be competing! I hope more people jump in on this! You are right, there have been some great videos in the past week or two. -Mike
Now hang on a second there.. where in the rules does it say benchwork/scenery required???? I know you have some track laid.
It's just not the same though..... I'll see what I can do. If I can find a high track/low camera angle where it's just the blue backdrop, then I could sprinkle some ballast on and see how it looks. Hmmm... -Mike
Do videos need to be edited before uploading? The one I want to enter, is 6 1/2 minutes, 400+ woo woo woo!! Think I gotta do some "minor" editing. Will try what I can before uploading.
If the video is 6 1/2 minutes, YES, it should be cut down to 3 minutes as stated in the rules. You can certainly include a link to the full video, however to prevent people from spending hours going through video so they can choose their favorite, only 3 minutes. If you choose only your favorite footage and cut out all the shaky camera movements and any time waiting for the train to enter/exit frame I think you'll find 3 minutes more than enough time. Editing will also cut the file size down to save on upload time. Remember this thread for compression suggestions.
Found Movie maker on computer. Checking it out, so I can edit video as needed. May take a while, but I have all night!
