Guess I wasted my time, trying to get a photo.
For a contest THOUGHT ended at MIDNIGHT on Monday??
I wasted two trips to get a photo I can't use.
    How disappointing. :tb-frown:

And had a couple of other ideas, that I'm not gonna worry about now.

I know but rules are rules

Sorry for your disappointment. I pick noon because I am usually at work on my lunch time and can close the contest at that time (see rule#1). I try to be fair to all instead of saying 12 midnight and closing at noon the next day. Because of my work hours the close time may move to be different then noon. Hours will always be rule #1. I hope you still add ideas for upcoming contest. I don't want to see any one go away mad. There is always the "Cutting Room Floor" thread.

    Doesn't matter any more.
I've removed all but a couple photos.
Really giving thought to calling it quits.
And going about things, as I have in the past - Alone.

    Keith,

I am sorry that you got your photos in late, but the time listed was noon, not midnight. This is meant to be fun, not to cause people stress.

You enjoyed getting those pictures, didn't you? I'd love to take a look at them anyway if they are in your RailImages account.

Please do submit photos for future contests. Your photos are always interesting and well-composed.

Keith, you have a good eye for a good shot and have a knack for getting some awesome photos. Sure would miss them if you stopped sharing them with us.

    Keith,

I too am sorry about the confusion of the contest deadline. Especially with the topic being your idea, I'm sure you had a great composition in mind. But look to the bright side, we'll have a new contest for you next weekend with new possibilities. If you give up now, what will you have to look forward to?

    A couple of quick things:

    1. Yes, I had an idea for the latest contest.
However, a Dr appointment mid morning caused a few problems.
The time listed is also a problem.
Times say ends at 24:00 hours. Isn't that supposed to be MIDNIGHT??

    2. Totally cleaned out RI account. Doubt I'm gonna add anything new.
Or replace what was deleted. Which is a bummer, as I had a few new items given to me, by a friend. One of which was gonna be used in a rather humorous way!
    Not now.

Still thinking of giving up. Participation may not be worth it.
However, I will still support Trainboard etc.......As it is still the best place aound!

Now back to the contest Keep those votes coming in looks like there may be another race to the end

In the past these contests have been closed at midnight. I had the same problem Keith did for the last one. (The free for all one) Lots of photos ready to post one on Monday night and then...CRAP!

I guess since it has changed that might be something worth making a special note of. I'll agree it is kinda disheartening to make the effort and find out the rules have changed on ya, especially given that it's a casual contest anyway.

In the past, the ruling order has been the date/time stamp on the EXIF info. To me, as long as the photo is within the range, close the silly thing on Wednesday...gives people time to edit and upload what they shot without any stress.

    Doug, Keith, and other participants,

We will be sure to state the deadline more clearly in future contests. Please understand that Mr. Train and I are volunteering our time so that we can bring you these contests. Our goal is to include as many people as possible to have as much fun as possible. In no way did we intentionally single anyone out, it was simply an error on our part. We are sorry, and we will make it right in future contests.

If you have any other concerns, questions, or comments, please feel free to post them in our contest discussion thread. Or if it is a more personal matter Mr. Train and I are both available via personal message.

I hope you will accept my apology and I hope to see future participation in these contests from everyone.

And speaking of future contests, you might want to check out this information on this weekend's "special" contest. :)

I just wish I COULD participate. As it is, house fire and all, I get to see some of the BEST photographers take some of the BEST pics out there. C'mon Keith, won't be the same without yer shots!! Now, when do we see the winner???

    Definitely NOT the best.
    Still doubt I'll participate again.
Even less likely to participate in the mentioned video contest.
I gave up trying to load a video to U Tube after a 45 minute wait while it failed to load.
Not worth my time and/or effort.

    Mark,

Sorry, didn't mean to be an ingrate here. Just pointing out that I guess some of us got accustomed to the old format and it apparently changed without much notice, that's all. In my mind, participation had waned and I made an effort to try and get a submission, only to find I was too late. No biggie for me, really, but it means I'll probably never be able to participate. (because of the logistics of getting a photo uploaded to PC, edited, uploaded to RI, and submitted on a Sunday evening) Again, fine with me--I don't have to participate--but I'm not sure why you would want to restrict it further....if anything I would have suggested starting it Friday at 12:01 am and stopping at Monday at midnight...close the entries Tuesday at some point or even Wednesday. Are we in a hurry? In professional sports, most rules changes are designed in favor of the offense, if you catch my drift....the more the merrier.

Now, if the only day you have to work on it is Monday, it makes sense.

Again, I'm not angry about it, and I'm not complaining...just trying to throw out the reasoning of why it was a little frustrating. Had I spoke up about it last week when I should have, perhaps Keith and others wouldn't have had the problem, but that ship has sailed I guess. Thanks for your volunteered time, and keep up the good work!

    Doug,

Your comments were not taken as ingrateful. I appreciate your manor of expressing them and we are working on the back end to accomodate them.

I also want to reiterate the Contest Discussion Thread. As Doug put it in his post above, "Had I spoke up about it last week when I should have, perhaps Keith and others wouldn't have had the problem". If you have ANY issue, comment, suggestion, big or small, please dont hesitate to post so that we know.

Ok, I think we've had enough of this battle now, dont you? Lets get back to voting!
