I looked up the phone number and it comes back as a cell phone. This box car (and the PFE reefer) have been listed for sale for months but at that price I doubt that there will ever be any takers. It also looks like there's a SP bay window caboose there as well...but dang if I can find where in Lodi it is...

    Never say never...found them:

    836 N Cluff Ave, Lodi, CA 95240

    https://www.google.com/maps/place/8...2!3m1!1s0x809a9f8d4403660d:0xa03b56600bb1bdc0

Six cars with roof walks (1 reefer and 5 WP boxcars?), a SP bay window caboose (maybe 2), and a 50' something without a roof walk. Now I guess I have to drive down there this weekend.

I've watched the listing for months, but while they look totally complete (roof walks and high brake wheels) the cost of moving something like that is HUGE. Helped with moving the WP caboose in Niles CA over 20 years ago and the cost for the crane and truck was over $10,000 then. Even if they were free, the cost of moving would be around the asking price now.

Would be a bit of work to convert the boxcars to train rooms unless one doesn't want heat or AC. A caboose however might be the ticket at about ten wide by thirty feet long and there should be some insulation in them which would help the HVAC bit. Already has doors and windows that a AC unit could be hung in plus the end porches doors and steps. Shipping might be a bit of a bear though. And of course some ties and rails, and ballast.

    I thought this was interesting:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-2-N-SCA...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The seller listed these as NEW so I messaged him/her to let them know that they don't really look new. The reply I got back stated that they took the photos right after they took the boxcars out of their previously unopened packages (which aren't included). Maybe I'm wrong but I don't recall con-cor, Life-Like, Bachmann or whoever to ever sell boxcars with no trucks or wheels. Hmmm.

I see the bidding ended and no indication any body bit. Can't be new or undamaged without the trucks and the boxes.

Like the way you think. Perhaps instead of a crane, a house jack and truck bogies would be more cost-effective.

It would be nice if that loco could be returned to Hawaii!

It really would be nice for the box cars to go to a museum (CSRRM?) and the steam to go back to Hawaii...

Since the Baldwins are narrow gauge not too many places they can go other than a static display somewhere. I believe the narrow gauge in Maine is even smaller gauge which might leave only the few western roads that could possibly restore them to running. Would be a nice tourist attraction in Hawaii if there is any 36 inch track left there.

So this is interesting... there's a message for me from eBay which says...

    REALLY?

Something's not right here... I have been shipping the day of or the business day after receipt of payment. Does that mean that buyers are trying to have their item and not pay for it too? And does this further infer that someone's going to try to scam me out of their payment sometime later? Oh, and this is during the past year, not the last month or last two months?

Since eBay doesn't, and won't, provide any other details (or they are so buried that I can't find them), this suggests that I cannot take action, like for example ban buyers who tried this. I suspect that they don't leave buyer feedback either, but that's not enough to narrow it down to the possible suspects.
