What you guys are overlooking is the meticulous hand painting of the stirrups, hinges, door tracks etc as well as the carefully run signage, extreme talent is needed to make something worthless into a masterpiece, this one has failed dramatically on every count.
It really doesn't matter to me if the person participates here or not. If you are going to disclose any information with regard to an item up for sale then disclose the truth. Otherwise as old Chinese proverb says: Let the buyer beware. At one time you could pick these up for a $1.00 or two at many of the LHS's. They were trying to clear their shelves to make room for newer and better products. This particular car wasn't a good seller as there was a question, as to prototype or not. Check out the original picture and read the box under the car. In case you missed it. Atlas, D&H and nothing said about it being a custom paint scheme. Standard run. Here is an oogle google search I did. You might find this interesting: http://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...-mailn&va=Delaware+&+Hudson+Railroad+Box+Cars Note 5th, fifth picture down on the right hand side. That's what I thought! Still curious note the 3rd, third picture down on the right hand side. Does you get it? I did say let the buyer beware.
I wonder if this is the same dealer I saw here in town at a train show. Has a very large set up of stuff in cases. He had a lot of stuff labeled "custom painted" that I have in my collection and they're not that old of a model. At least I wouldn't call something four or five years old a "classic".
Pretty sure it is. He's someone I've purchased from in the past. If he says a locomotive runs...it does. He just wants an arm and a leg for what he sells. When most of the stuff I buy from his is being purchased for parts. The younger generation of modelers can be fooled but some of us who've been in the hobby since our inception...can't be.
Rick, I have bought from him as well, because he'll have some very cool stuff. I've bought a couple of Micro Trains cabeese from him that I hadn't seen anywhere else, the WP orange and silver and the SP&S that I couldn't pass up, even at $30.
While the car in question has been weathered, doing so does not make it a "custom paint". It should just have been described as weathered, regardless of the skill level involved.
John, Recognize the real gems for what they are and scarf them up. Ken, I wholeheartedly agree...what you said.
These are "Long out of production!" So, get'em while they last, cause when they're gone.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-piece-Lot...l_RR_Trains&hash=item4170a3c0bb#ht_972wt_1129
general bizzaro world ebay question. I'm looking at a loco on ebay, new from a reasonable dealer. It has a price of 49.99. They have multiple units available. My bizzaro world question is: Other dealers list the loco at 1.5 to 2.5 that price, and continue to list them... Do the more expensive units sell?
I don't know how to drag things from Ebay to here, but I was just looking at Kato Early SD40-2s. There is a BN for $269 !!! I checked it out and there doesn't seem to be anything special. I don't even think it is DCC. It's been there for quite a while, and now there is a MILW for $269, also !!! I have bought things from this seller in the past and this just makes no sense to me, unless he really DOESN'T want to sell these things. Could someone please check these out and tell me if I'm missing something ??? Wouldn't be the first time !!!
If it's Big Dxxxxxx Txxxxx, most of his stuff is priced real high, his stuff has been a guest on this thread thread many times! The SD40-2's that you seen have been priced that way for a long time. I think they are stock units.
Bendtracker, thanks for looking !!! So, I guess the humor lies in the name of the seller when viewing those prices !!! I'm looking for 3 SD40-2s to convert to 38-2s. If only he had a third one !!! Unbelievable !!!
LOL, it's funny he still has them listed for that price even after the latest runs! But I'm sure somebody will decide sooner or later, they can't live with out one, Cha-Ching and he'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Run 8, One way to brings a reference to TB is to copy the web-address and paste it here. This way you can use it as a link. Now don't blame me if I said that wrong. Me and computers are as foreign as night and day. Grin. This will work for e-pay but don't expect to link vendors who aren't TB sponsors. They've been blocked. I have a correction to make. I originally wrote: ""Here is an oogle google search I did. You might find this interesting:http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...oad+Box+Cars&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13666958367174 . Still curious note the 3rd, third picture down on the right"" Should now read the second picture down on the right. Do expect the picture arrangement to change as other box cars or sellers add their offerings. I leave you to your own conclusions.
NEW, USED - what's the difference? That seller regularly buys USED stuff on eBay and resells as NEW. Buyers who complain are offered a 20% discount on future purchases as a delaying tactic until it is too late to do a PayPal chargeback. e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-scale-MIC...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 same link as above: http://goo.gl/JHTuA
One of the reasons you see very high priced stuff continue to be listed over and over again is that if something doesn't sell the first time it is listed, E-*** lets you list it again without charging you the listing fee a second time. Since there's no penalty to relist, then they just keep relisting until they give up, lower the price, or (hahahaha) sell it.
i thought the kato sd40-2 for almost $300 was funny check this out http://www.ebay.com/itm/KADEE-MICRO...l_RR_Trains&hash=item3f24692c24#ht_1098wt_884
