Since it's in the old box, I assume it has the old plastic frame and not the better metal split frame.

    What I can never understand...

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item (including handmade items).

If its "unopened"...how do they get pictures of it...out of the box?...hmmmm :tb-wacky:

Starting price was $19.95. They show up at train shows for that all the time. Anybody have one to sell to the 2nd highest bidder?

Here's my current nominee for the eBay follies. A Kato Mikado with Lenz DCC for $350! I love Kato Mikados but $350?

KATO HEAVY MIKADO WP #307 N SCALE 126-0207 w/ LENZ DCC

This HAS happened to me. I was selling some dupes and took a picture of one of my runners. I had to add a note that the picture was of a same type model and that the item for sale was unused.

Or you could just say an item is new- it's just been out of the box for photography!

What incredible detail. And look at the skin tone on the little guy holding the boots in the last pic. Amazing!

Clearly- they are European boots. They are listed in the Fleischmann category!

I sort of pride myself in NOT being a collector, chasing "relative values" of pieces, but I don't mean to demean anyone who does. I just ain't my cup of tea, hot tea, mind you. Early in N, I was exposed to some of the mania regarding ConCor collector sets and
"Kadee cars" was we called them back then. I saw exhorbitant prices, guys switching trucks exchanging innards to newer boxes just to get a better price, and when asked, these guys justified, or rationalized it as "restoration" of a running piece.

So, my collector energy was centered around plastic model car kits by AMT, which I did very well, both buying/selling and building, and even today that is my other hobby.

But, I have supported my children in innocent youths in their endeavors regarding sports cards, PokEMon cards, and Beanie Babies, and the lessons learned from those activities have etched a "lessons learned" tattoo on my forehead forever.

First, I won't go into sports cards, but down here in ultra-wealthy (then-and certainly not me) Boca Raton, Florida, I have seen wholesale treachery, outright fraud and lying first hand, which certainly turned me off. Then Pokemon cards (sp?) I saw a rich Boca kid offer my son $150 each for Blastoise and Charlezard cards because he wanted the prestige of showing them off at trading sessions, today worth zilch. Then on to Beanie Babies, in 1997, values of the Mark Macguire beanie baby was assigned even before they became available. I remember going to swap meets in posh hotels along Boca's country club row, and vendors trying to convince my kids these stuff things were worth $100 and would become thousands in just a few years. BTW, we never could afford those but bought some for $15, plus the display cases, plus, plus plus.....

Today the Pokemon cards and beanie babies sit in my closet carefully stored and preserved to give back to my kids when they buy homes. All of them are basically worthless today, thanks to the existence of ebay and the final truth the items are not as rare as the word of mouth told us in earlier years.

I collect trains like everyone else but for pure fancy and not for resale or conjecture. I have an old collector catalog for N scale "Kadee" cars that list some of the prices in the hundreds and some into the thousands. I wonder what those are worth today?

That is a rat race I don't want to be in. I just like running and operating my stuff.

Well,in British Columbia, that might be what that set COSTS..The tax rate is something like 13%,and prices are sky high.Whenever I go on a trip,I buy a passenger train[hopefully...] from the area I'm visiting,or at least a loco.Kato/Atlas locos are 140+ dollars before tax,I bought an Atlas Shay there four years ago,it cost me close to $250.00,and a Kato CP widecab, that was over $150.00..I was looking at a Northlander set I wanted BAD,if I bought it,I woulda had to hitchhike home..

The seller must be a doofus for not listing any info about this set. No part or car numbers. No details of the set.

North American Railcar put out these cars a couple of years ago. Many are still available.
I am trying to remember, but I think they had a deal that if you bought a 12 car set, you could buy a 13th car that was only available if you bought 12. Kind of a collectors thing.
Still this guy is asking $85.00 per car. Manufacturer list is $26.95.

Must be Smokin the B.C. Green.

The cars are really nice, but not for that price.

Kato Jet Powered RDC for only $20 Million

Here's a Kato Kobo NYC Jet powered RDC for only $20,000,000.00. I think I will be using the "Make Offer" feature rather than the "Buy it Now" feature on this one - unless it really has a jet engine. [IMG]

BRAND NEW! KATO Jet Powered RDC !!W/DCC & Sound!!

Seriously, this guy is brilliant. If anyone sorts by highest price first, his listing is on top. (That's how I noticed it.)

    Hahahahahaa.

I had not actually read your post. I only skimmed it and clicked the link. So I was in for a great LAUGH when I saw the sticker price.

Thanks for posting and keeping this thread alive. A very worthy candidate.

I guess to be fair and honest to him, in order to cut the guy some slack, everyone should look at his country of origin. I think there might be a currency exchange problem. He may think the item is listed in another currency!

But in spite of his error (as we say in the Deep South- Bless his Heart) it still looks pretty funny. I've never seen anything like it!

Isn't the item in Naples, Florida? I didn't realize they used a different currency down there.

Maybe he'd get some more action on it if he dropped the $5.85 shipping charge.

    :tb-wink:
