Anyone know of log cars in On30, which are a longer version than those offered by Bachmann? Just curious... Boxcab E50
Try these: http://www.ozsteam.com/html/on30_log_car.html http://stores.ebay.com/sierrawest-s..._W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ7086010QQftidZ2QQtZkm http://briggsmodels.com/on30logcar.htm Don't know much about em...I have a set of Bachmann cars I got in a box of stuff and have never run...
Well, the Briggs Models kits are what I am thinking. But $40 x 2 w/o T/C seems a bit much. I may need to research stretching the Bachmann. Boxcab E50
You can try Foothill Model Works and convert one of the the 24' log bunk flats for use in On30. A bit pricey but I have seen these kits and they are heads and shoulders above the Bachmann stuff. Besides, why would you really need a logging car longer than 24'? Most lumber company bucked their logs at 16' anyway. If you need longer why not just skip a one piece car and go with bunks with long drawbar connections between them. Just my 2 cents. John
John- Perhaps in pulpwood country? But that's definitely not true here in the Pacific NW. Most mills cut long longs. The exception might be a speciality operation. Some were only for export. Where they did it in metric dimensions. In my younger years, I worked in the woods, and also at a couple of sawmills. (Off-bearer, tailing edger, green chains, planer chains, mill pond and dock.) For fun, I used to spend some time sitting in a loader with a buddy in a Weyco sort yard. His regular job was loading and unloading log cars. While there were short logs, sometimes due to circumstances other than simply bucking to length. We had much longer than 16 feet stuff most of the time. In fact, exceeding 30 feet easily, with regularity. Any less and they'd fall between the car bunks. I'm looking for cars that are probably in the 26-28 foot length. Boxcab E50
There are dual beam type skeleton log cars available from Ian Lindsey Models, but I don't know their length.
I just looked at that page. If those trucks are 4 foot wheelbase, that car is probably somewhere around 16'-20' in length. Bienvenue a' Trainboard, Bruno.
Thank you! I have been very passive since my registration to the board, but today I had something to say Is there a specific place to introduce myself?
There's no particular place to pop in and say a first hello. It's certainly nice, but not at all required. Any specific Forum of interest, where you make a first post and wish to introduce yourself, is fine. Boxcab E50
There is an ad in the current Light Iron Digest, (#54), by Wiseman Model Services for a 28 foot skeleton kit. But I do not see it on his web site. Anyone had some experience building this kit? I presume one per package? Anybody seen a price? Is it complete, less T/C? Boxcab E50
30' other #1 other #2 I have no personal experience with his products. I find some interesting, but those of utility for me are more expensive than I'd consider paying. I understand that he is an active modeler and shares tips. Michael
Interesting these are on eBay, but I did not see them on his web site. I searched the freight car listings. Hmmmm... Guess I'll need to look again. The car I'd noted earlier, is not amongst those three you linked, so perhaps it's a new item? Boxcab E50
I have purchased some stuff from him...great guy. I will say that I think SOME of his stuff is overpriced, but I think this is due to limited production and a small audience. Every now and again I see the logging cars on EBay but since I don't do logging, I pretty much gloss over them.
John- I have also made a couple of purchases from him. If you happen to have a moment, a favor? Could you glance at his web site, and see if it's just me being blind, that I somehow missed spotting where he shows the log cars? Boxcab E50
LocoPainter.com :: On3/On30 LOGGING ROLLING STOCK KITS More specifically: LocoPainter.com :: On3/On30 28 FOOT SKELETON LOG CAR KIT If that's it...it's just the benefit of a second set of eyes. My wife is accustomed to "where'd you hide my calipers honey?"...followed by "oh, they were on my work bench". ;-)
Folks, Keith is very easy to work with. Just give him a call and he will set you straight on what ever you need to know. I've purchased more items than I can count from him and I've never been disappointed. Again, just pick up the phone. Dan
Last time I called him with a question we ended up on the phone for over an hour just chewin' the fat!
Yup. That's the page. Why I didn't get there...? Argh. The AMB301 should be what I am seeing in LID. Boxcab E50
