I am curious with the RSU, when would you use the tweezers versus the single electrode handpiece attachment?
I haven't used the tweezers, so I can't comment on them. In saying that tho I would think that it would boil down to personal choice.
Okay.... I tried to resist, because, I'm sure my answer is going to be, "Find an online supplier", but it seems likewwhat I need is Acid core solder and flux to do efficient track work. Neither seem to be available locally in the boonies of central New Jersey. Before I go looking, is that the key? I have a 40 Watt flat tip on my Weller, so it should get hot enough, but thin flux core electronics solder, just doesn''t seem to flow as fast as you all suggest, and I'm melting ties. Might cleanliness and the acid core with solder, put me over the top?
For solder - Kestler 60/40 rosin core (also known as Radio Solder). I have found nothing else that works as well. Other brands don't seem to cut it. The only time I use Silver solder is in high heat applications and I haven't found any of those in model railroading. I used to use sliver solder on electric RC car race motors and batteries because the motors especially would get hot enough to melt standard solder. Sucks to drop out of a race because a wire came unsoldered.
I don't know what's in them, but I have the TIX solder (very low temp, but supposedly strong for jewelry) with flux and anti-flux, plus the silver solder plus flux from Micro Mark. Both fluxes work well, no idea if either is acid based. The folks at FastTrax seem to have some opinions as well, and will sell you some IIRC.
