Wow, some mighty fine modeling and photography here, that puts my original photo that started this thread to shame! I've done a bit to the layout since this thread was started 9 years ago , one of which is painting my backdrop. Here's an updated photo at the same location, with a loaded lumber drag from Portland meeting a westbound empties. 2 new SD70Ms are on the point of the eastbound, the rest of the units are typical SP 1995 grungy. Long live the Espee
Southern Pacific F F class build from a Kato Mikado, boiler casting from Greg (GHQ) and tender casting is my own. Jason Smith Tomball Locomotive Works
Awesome Jason! I never would have guessed that started out as a Kato Mike - excellent work and nice light weathering
Jason, great work again! Now that's a DECK! Love that funky clamshell stack appurtenance, very SP!Did you build it on one of the cast 2-10-2 frames, or a stretch?Keep em coming! Otto K.
Thanks Guys, Otto- it's a stretched/ driver box added frame. Unfortunately, the brass cast frame required as much work as adding a drive box and I consider the project a failure. Now that I can concentrate on building again, the 2nd and improved ATSF tender is in the mold and you should have castings very soon.
Tender casting Sorry Jason, that's a shame...you put so much effort into the cast frame project. Would have been sweet, oh well...Thanks for trying....on to other challenges!Otto
Just got my Cab Forward back from inter-mountain. Runs better now then when I received the locomotive.
Dave, great shot, and it's great to see your layout continuing to progress so consistently over the years. Thx for sharing.

Well, I could not resist any longer. My Bachmann / Smith SP AC-9, in all of her glory......................................... I had a good time bashing this and am going to pull boiler and re-do or hopefully have a new boiler to work with. It is SP and needed to be in this thread. SP lives, in my world. Carl
