I heard from Wayne's wife Jan yesterday that he is doing much better. Apparently he had a cold on top of everything else, and has recovered from that. :tb-sad:
i hope he is doing well i hope he requested the trackside house so he can still railfan and not be away from trains too long lol i hope he gets well soon and comes back to the board we all really miss him:tb-sad:
Took me a while but I'm glad I found this thread. Watash and I have had some long email conversations and I've missed him. Hope all is well and I plan to give him a call soon.
Hey guys, please do call Wayne. He is anxious to hear from his friends. Jan said today that he is spending more time off oxygen, and she hopes to be able to bring him home for some time periods beginning next month. He is one of the really good people in this world and I sure hope he comes out of this.
Just had a phone conversation with Watash. Told him we are all still concerned and are holding him in our prayers and good wishes. As with the last time I talked with him, he remains in good spirits and sounds great, although a little tired. He is still in intensive care and is going through physical therapy to regain his strength. He said he can now walk about 72 feet with out the oxygen bottle. With oxygen he can walk almost anywhere he wants. His appetite is good and he has gained about 40 pounds since he entered the hospital in February. The doctors are telling him that is OK for now, but they will bring his weight down before he is discharged. As it stands right now, Watash is expecting to be in the hospital until the end of July. Then he will be able to head for home. He will probably have to keep the oxygen bottle with him for the rest of his life. Watash enjoys receiving calls from us. So much so, that he kept me on for about 32 minutes. He will reply to your cards and emails as soon as he is able. The best time to phone him is stil around 1:00 p.m. Central time. That is between when he has lunch and he goes to physical therapy.
What's the latest with Watash? July is long gone (though from the summer we've had (not) you'd have missed it if you blinked ). Is he back home? Better? Worse? And is Ike coming his way?
As we know, Ike went well east of even Dallas, running up east Texas before turning into Arkansas and following the cold front northeast to the Chicago area. So all he got was some wind & rain.
I emailed Jan and she said they had 75 mph winds that were scary. Here's the rest of her message: Wayne is holding his own, but is becoming very confused because of lack of oxygen. His birthday is the 30th and I’d like to try and bring him home for a day, but he is very unstable on his feet, so will have to cross that bridge later. Thanks for emailing , please keep Wayne in your prayers. Jan OK, now that we know Wayne's birthday is Sept 30, why not send him a ton of birthday cards?? The address of the nursing home is somewhere back in this thread, I think. If not, I'll try to find it and post it. Fitz.
Oh my, it's like I was lost some where in the Alps because I'm just hearing about Watash. I'm sending my card all the way from Jamaica so I need to get cracking at it. I can't believe this at all.
V2DMX, I don't want to sidetrack this thread, but how did you, your family, and your property (layout) survive Gustav and Ike?
Fitz thanks for the update. Wayne is always in my thoughts and I think the Birthday card idea is great. Here is hoping things get better.
Good Idea Here is the info on the nursing home: Mr. Wayne Wilson Watson Nursing Center 5000 East Lancaster Fort Worth, TX 76103 Phone in Watash's room: (817) 413-7208
Yes, thanks Owen, and I'm going to keep bumping this back up until we sign up a whole bunch of folks to send Watash a birthday card. I bought mine today and will mail it this weekend. C'mon folks, we need to cheer Watash up. :tb-biggrin:
Will be getting a card tomorrow. As many of you already know, with his love of humor, the funnier the better. :rn-goofy: I have not talked to him for a while, thanks for the update and the birthday reminder.
Quite some time ago, if I remember correctly, Wayne told us how he acquired the nickname "Watash." I have searched for that note , but it might be too old to have been preserved. Does anyone recall his description and/or how to find it? It was something special for him, as I recall.:search:
