    Tim,

I'm really impressed you definately should do an article on this unit.

    Tim,
I concur with Paul. A project like that would make a great article, and a lot of people would get something out of it.

Thanks guys. I'm documenting all of the steps and the bill of materials and will submit them to NSR per Tony's suggestions. The decals showed up yesterday, but taking my 9-yr-old to the Cardinals game took priority. :) I'm detailing the hoods of all three and one of the sills of the last order (with thick anticlimber) today.

Is that the JnJ shell, or something different?

    Tim,

Nice work! I know that in real life these units were delivered in yellow & gray w/ MP lettering, but what is the chance this could wind up in Jenks blue? I'm not a big SMF (Slobbering MoPac fan), but I like that blue scheme over the "canary" colors any day.

I concur with the others-this should be written up in a magazine, great kitbashing job!

    Bob,
Thanks for the comment on the C36-7s. I'm still working on them with not much more to go. I've already got them in UP colors and NLR decals per the prototypes. One will be a later unit based on the some NdeM C30-7s with the thick anticlimber while the other two will have the earlier thin anticlimber.

    Eagle2,
The GP15-1 is bashed from a JnJ shell I had laying around. I used only the long hood portion and cut off the sill, cab, etc. The cab and, nose, walkway and handrails are Atlas GP40-2 parts. I removed one handrail stanction from the walkway and handrail to shorten them to an approximate length. The cab vent and electrical box were made from styrene. I think the bell is a JnJ item. The fuel tank is from a GP15-1 kit from Jim's (Semikoski) N-scale Shells. Some paint on the handrails, spark arrestors and detailing with some serious lube overspray on the hood doors will complete it.

Here's my second try with the Mark4Design long hoods, GP38-2 number 2249:

And a shot of just the rear to highlight the fan grills that come with the kit and the BLMA grabs and air hoses (which are just too easy to work with, BTW):

Check out the new shorty caboose fox is coming out with. The MOPAC one is a beauty! The price seems kinda steep, but I sure would like to have one of those at the end of my train.

Good grief, that is a sight indeed. May very well be worth the cost - but that's a big piece of budget planning. Can you say "Tax Refund?" Thought you could...

A nice caboose however a little too pricey, well this weekend I finished my first MoPac Geep. I only realised recently that I actually did not have any geeps in MoPac other than the early schem GP7 torpedo.

Here is the finished GP9 in Jenks Blue, the torpedo will become a chopped nose GP7 in the next few weeks.

This is the first picture I took before I converted this UP SD40-2 into a C&EI SD40-2 3404. It is also the first time I attempted to detail a model. I used an airbrush instead of hand painting it. I didn't think there was a big difference, but boy there is! I put on grab irons, antenna, sunshades, and the MU hoses. It was a very, very, fustrating, but good learning experience. If you are taking apart a loco and detailing it, make sure not to let super glue get into places you are going to be returning parts to. The windshield portion was obstructed by dried superglue, and I broke the little clip that holds the glass into place on the body. I forgot to put the rear numberboards in place before I painted it, so the numberboards are a different color than the rest of the loco. When I finally finished it, I forgot I put the sunshades and the antenna on the loco and broke them all off when I tried to close the kato case. I was able to get them back on and now I remember to not close the case so tightly when I am puting the loco up. I have another UP SD40-2 that is waiting its turn for conversion into the Jenks. Hopefully that one will go better! The other pictures are the fleet all pulling together and running the danger of tripping the power supply!

Somewhere along the way I got a P2K GP9, in SP colors. After seeing your N scale Geep, I may do the same to this one (Albeit in HO), as a mate to my GP35M and GP38-2.

BTW- I had to pack both away for a while before I left for Georgia, but I'm gonna try to take 'em to Oregon with me to do the finishing work, then do the GP9. A 3-unit lashup of MP power meeting the Frisco at, say, Claremore, Van Buren, or Tulsa would look nice.

I'm not converting to a MP fan, but I like the roads that ran in the same era as Frisco. Katy will be next on my list! :D

Sorry Paul...haven't had time to respond lately. The small exhaust stacks were on the JnJ shell. I plan to add some out-of-production Locomotion(?) spark arrestors when I dirty it up like the prototype.
