That is the speedy mail for you. It took a week for you to get my letter. Pony Express was MUCH faster. ...don
Mine arrived today, no damage! Good directions and excellent exploded view. Great job Ben, keep them coming. Should be no problem to assemble, I think.:tb-biggrin:
The mailman just sauntered in with a house in tow. 5:00 pm today - 10:30 am yesterday - go figure. Packaging is great, looks the same as it left Ben's hands. Directions are extra detailed, much better than most. Neat touch of color. I've put quite a number of laser kits together, and this is another real good one. On a quick look the only thing I would change is locating the sprues from the corners to the "middle" of an area to be cut. I talked to Robert Ray about this a couple of times and he showed me his laser doesn't register exactly and he finds it better to leave them in the corners. FWIW. I may get into construction today or tomorrow. As someone said - where's the furniture? ...don
I'm glad you guys got everything in hands!!! You'll have a nice 2 hours of hobby time this week-end.:bear-cute: Good night everyone! And I leave you with one of my favorite signer, with a nice video clip. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIZqr6rzV4E"]YouTube - XXL[/ame] Ben
Hey Ben, I got mine today! All cuts are all the way through and everything looks great. I gotta get crackin' and build it up. Thanks for making this house available. It will fit in nice on the street behind the station on my layout. Looking forward to the next one as well ; ) If you feel like selling more perhaps you could put a listing up on E-bay? For the folks who don't use this forum.
So Ben, are you the Conductor walking the track, the sweaty hunk grease monkey or, the you boy that looks lonely ? Nice train theme. Guess I should switch to black and white with some sort of animated woman lashed to the front of locos. '
...between a bunch of other things like paying bills, I have the walls assembled. This is one of the finest laser kits I have seen, and further having it in Z is great. I had something happen that has never happened before during test fitting the walls and that was one of the walls snapped into place during a test fit, and once in place I defy you to find the joints -- and it wasn't even glued. Ben must have a dozen of these around tinkering with the cuts to come out with such a fine kit. The lumber is special which helps even more. Having all the different add-on rooms to the house makes it even more interesting. Ben, get your laser into top speed, as we need more kits like this. This one is spectacular. You have really raised the bar. ...don
Nice job , seems everything fitted correctly. I was looking forward to see some finish product. (I will update my drawing on some info, I just notice it was not clear as to which side the chimney should go... you have put the chimney on the wrong side of the house:bear-embarrassed:.. sorry!) Ben
Don Thanks for the nice compliments. (Don't forget all the good input you have given me.) I didn't have a dozen made, but yes for sure a couple, the one being sold is version number 6, all versions are here on this photo. version 2 was not assemble, It was used for snap test (no glue) and I discover that grain orientation was very important with this material, so version 2 was scrapped and put aside. Version 1 is the white one, ver. 3 is the completed one, 4,5 and 6 are all not finish, I got bored assembling them when I had pass so much time creating them.:bear-wink: I usually create up to 3 models for test fit , like my CN Athabasca caboose. It would be fun to know how much test runs the other scratchbuilders accumulate, when they create a kit! Robert? Kim? And the other I don't know......:bear-tongue: Hum? Thanks Chris for the update, yes I will broadcast a little more outside of this forum, ass soon as I will update the my web site with the Pay now option. I liked the experience so far. Ben
It takes me a lot of tries till I get a model acceptable. Usually 6 tries. When I revisit them a year later, It takes another couple mods till I am happy.
All depends the kit takes me from 2 to 10 per kit then the test kits I send to have the problems worked out ,that I don't see. Right now it takes longer to draw them as my Hep C is acting up and I'm on the liver transplant list. rich rslaserkits
Ben, I almost glue part c first instead of part b. I suggest that you make the slots different so that they are idiot proof. Probably the hardest part of the assembly was the chimney. I use a tweezer to assemble it, but overall, it is a very nice kit.
ho ya! The chimney can be quite challenging, you need a pair of tweezer, even two in my case, to be able to assemble those 4 littles triangles parts. It is noted for the parts similarity, I will change the distance of the positioning pins, that should help. Ben
Hi Ben, First, the video is quite beautiful. But did you know that Mylène Farmer is one of the most famous french singer ... She did a lot of number one hits, some times ago and was always cute looking. But to come to the stuff -------> I will order you 3 kits today, forgot just about :we2-goofy: Thanks and Greetings Armand
Moien Armand! Yes I know quite about Mylene Farmer, she was born here in Montreal.:bear-wink: Merci for your purchase and support Armand. I should be able to ship everything tomorrow. Ben
Update Ok, after getting the info that 3 modelers had done mistakes by putting the wrong walls on the wrong side of the base, . all new kits being sold will have some poka-yoke (mistake-proofing) on the positioning pins for the main walls.:bear-smile: Keep the info coming, it will help other modelers to have a mistake-proofing kit. Thanks all Ben
ben, i believe part of the problem (of installing the wrong wall) is because the layout of the parts in the picture (lasered sheet) is turned around from that of the exploded view. it's a small thing, but the mind plays tricks. because i've studied the instructions several times (not being ready to assemble the house) is when i noticed the difference. it's subtle, but with new pins and holes to differentiate the walls, that should solve the problem very nicely. one thing that would be welcome is a few more feet of fence! could another short fence length be fit in the other unused space between the floor beams (next to where the other fence pieces are fit)? it's a really nice kit and i'm thinking about buying another. i can't wait to see what your next offering will be? (the emerald palace????). he he he. dave f.
Dave, I'll see what I can do regarding having more fences.:bear-wink: What's coming up next, will be for the pro modelers with a good pair of tweezers. But I'm not ready to divulge anything yet.:bear-tongue: One thing for sure is that it will be the last one for the year 2007. Ben
Ben, My iterations have been anyway from 0 to over 30 in some cases, but average of about 4-5. The most iterations happens when I finish a model then change something to make it look better and every thing else have to be changed to fit. The second most iterations happens when I use an existing drawing and modify it to use it in another model. So now I just don't use any existing drawings and start everything from scratch, and every time I do this it turns out better and I learn something new. The Steam loco I have been trying I think has over 50-60 iterations I am not counting, it is because of new materials, new techniques, modified laser... each time you discover something that works better you try it all again with new setting fine tune it and you find something better again.... Kim
