The ALCO RS2s would only start to come off their trust when the GP30s came out... add about 10 years (Dash-2s arrive) and you will be closer to the truth.

But they ARE available!!! Costly, but available.

Both are not limited to just prototype-itis... you came into this world all-natural so why not desire it, be it for a prototype or freelancing.

Just got back from a doctor's appointment and a stop at Wally World only to find that what I was talking about with my daughter has been brought up here. Amazing!!! But I freelance so its not just about prototype-itis.

Actually they (well, at least the coach) has been produced twice, once as flat sides to rebuild a Concor Slumbercoach and once by Kato.

There is no shame in being thorough!!!

    That's called "RAILFANNING" not prototype-itis.

Since I have a model of every PA-1 that the P&LE had, does this mean that I have "prototypitis"? (P&LE had only four PA-1s---in fact, considering how many manufacturers have sold PA-1s, and considering that all of them did NYCS lightning stripes, it amazes me still , that no one has ever done P&LE. One manufacturer offered PA-2s, and they did not do P&LE)

How about when you completely tear apart and rebuild a previously-finished and prized loco kitbash because you later learned it was a couple scale inches longer than the prototype.

....and, is it a different ailment when you can't see 3 or 4 numbers together without thinking what type of loco would have carried them?

Since I posted that I am definitely afflicted with Freelance-it is... it seems counterintuitive that I would post on this thread as well.

However... while I am completely open to stretching reality to fit my whims as to era and where certain locomotives and their home roads roamed the rails... I really prefer to have prototypically correct locomotives and rolling stock. I consider the hobby a form of 'living art' and the locomotives and the rolling stock are the actors. I don't like imposter locomotives and rolling stock any more than I'd like a bald Elvis singing Led Zeppelin songs in Las Vegas.

Like many other less-than talented model railroaders... I really don't feel compelled to go through most of the rigors of super-detailing. I will accept close-enough at a 3' point of view as a good standard... although in todays world of super close-up photography... I would prefer the manufacturers to get all the major stuff right because I'm not likely to do any major work on locomotive or rolling stock.

That's about it for my prototypical-it is...

I have a terminal case of that. It's how I remember numbers. BN SD40, D&RGW SD45, MILW SD40-2 = 6310, 5322 and 156... My coworkers call me rain man because of how I can recall random numbers; this is how!

...When stopped at a RR crossing and a double-stack train rolls by, you not only note which container lines you need to stock up on ("I think I need more China Shipping, Capital Leasing and Florens containers...") but you suddenly notice that you need to weather your containers a little more heavily.

Lol, I always thought that I was the only crazy one! Ohio has 4 digit numbers on license plates, so I'm always playing this game on my commute :).

I model a fictional line the Assiniboine valley so I cant really relate
But when you have a lot of stuff according to your mom so every time you ask wouldn't this look good on the layout she yells at you to stop shopping and you cower away just to return 2 minutes later to do it all over again

You too? Reporting marks and numbers have proven to be an excellent way of memorizing Windows passwords that meet the complexity tests, you just remember those units anyway. If you have your prototype roster memorized, there's always a way!

I have the terminal case of that. I'm studying photos and videos of passenger car interiors to correctly model details that can't be seen from the outside of those cars. :S

Funny, I had just the opposite happen. I have a future daughter-in-law that immediately commented that my early Amtrak passenger service must be terrible because the cars are completely empty. Wow, that was an expensive observation!

That's your reward for lighting the car interiors....

Guilty as charged. I built a logging camp car that had bunk beds with bedrolls on them, chests of drawers, a table with pots, pans and dishes, wood stove, cases of beer and beans with labels shrunk down to size on the cases, and kerosene lamps, plus a clothes line with a pair of Levis drying on it. Everything was scratched including the car. I did however build a removable roof to view it. Another build was a 70 foot passenger car that was Louis Hill's private car on the GN. Even included the modified rear platform that had a garage for an auto. That one did not have a removable roof. Structures have included at least three that had interior outfitted rooms one was a movie theatre that had a detail upstairs men's room right down to urinals on the wall. I finally managed to overcome my affliction.

So, help me out here, if today I took an extra long way back from a job I had in Ekalaka, MT, (which is the fantasy main terminal of the NPBH,) by driving along the proposed route of the NPBH between there and PLevna, MT which would be the interchange with the MILW, .....does this mean I have a problem? Or this ....itis?

Well, that and I found out just what is required to detail an interior up to Rapido's standards. Simply put, I never realized that you could have taps on an N scale sink until I saw the bathroom on their Dayniter.

You know you have prototype-itis when

-Your wife has a photograph of you standing on a prototype locomotive (with permission) getting photos so you get the details right.

-You are upset than no one makes a 9 blade fan (way more common than you think).

-You finish detailing and painting an engine only to have the owner of the prototype renumber it, which in turn means I have to renumber it.

-You won't run a Kato SD70ACe on the point of a BNSF train if it doesn't have an isolated cab.

Or when you wish the NP had gone ahead with the plans for the A-6 Northern and then you would have had an excuse to buy an FEF for a starting point.

Or that the NP had bought that streamlined Northern that looked so much like the SP's GS-4's so that we could get the daylights modified to NP........

    Or is that proto-freelancitis?!!!!
