Here on Trainboard I have enjoyed the Private Message features. Allowing me to communicate privately about an issue that might take off in a direction away from trains or goes political. Most the time it is used to keep up with good friends. I've learned to that I can trust the guys and gals here when swapping or buying train equipment. It's a cool feature.

What bothers me is I have now received two messages to my personnel e-mail address and deleted them thinking I would find them here in my private file. Apparently, I'm unable to discern the difference...missing some clue. Computers are still a frustrating tool for me to work with.

One was from someone offering to help me with some private decals and the other was from a friend I made at a recent swap meet. And, I'm not sure what to do about all this.

Perhaps, if you are one of the two I've described I would like to hear back from you and suggest you use the Trainboard Private Messaging option. At least this takes a number of deliberate steps to delete.

The big question is, am I the only one who has had a problem with this?

    Thanks for the read.

No, you are not the only one, Rick. I also have deleted some personal e-mails from new, and/or infrequent acquaintances due to my paranoia with spam and security. I ask that these people use meaningful information in the subject line, but that doesn't always work either.

Private Messages, and e-mail are two seperate functions. A PM allows you to communicate without needing an e-mail address. Some members have chosen to not list a contact e-mail, as it affords some anonymity. You can manage such settings, via "My TrainBoard."

    Barstow rick check your P.M.s

It is unfortunate that the state of world and local affairs cause us all to be a little paranoid and the loss of oppertunities, new friendships ETC. is the result! It makes me thankful for forums like Trainboard!, a great place! :shade:

    Explained:

Note the two images attached to this message.

In the first, you will see the options for receiving e-mail from people here.

In the second, you will see how setting those options has an effect on what people see when they click your name.

Note that sending an e-mail to someone bypasses the private messaging system.

This is different from the e-mail notification that you may choose to set, so that when someone sends you a private message you also receive an e-mail alert.

    There is a difference.

That said (and a good job done saying it to) I use the e-mail notification to let me know some one at train board has reach out to me. It also lets me see what they sent, so I can decide if I need to respond asap or when time allows me.
Another pat on the back for those fine folks running trainboard with out being paid. I will get down off my soap box now.:shade:

    PMs

Well folks,If you will allow my comments, I use the pm and email quite frequently. Since the start I connected with a real gentleman thrugh pm and then emails, he in Texas and me here in Quebec This man has been a great sourse of support and encouragement with both the MRR and personal situations.I had to put my progress on hold and actually had to tear it apart to put up a new basement wall. I hope to get back to it by the winter months.Hopefully my eyes and legs will hold out. (Diabetis complications).
The people we meet here on Trainboard are all great gents and ladies. I'm sure there are a multitude of members who enjoy the same. I just wanted to seize this moment to say thanks to the staff and memners.Hopefully this is not a goodby, maybe a so long for now . Cheers...........................Joseph

    Joseph and all tuned in,

Hang in there Joseph, it's going to get better. Lot's of things happening in N scale that will make it easier and simpler to build a layout and run those favorite trains. I to suffer from the diabetic affliction thus proving, you aren't alone. No matter the affliction we can still find ways to enjoy our hobby. You take care of yourself.

I'm afraid that is not a feature that is available in vBulletin.
