    Southern BELLE

Folks, the KCS' premier passenger train was the "Southern BELLE", named for a pretty young lady, and not the "Southern Bell", named for a telephone company or a piece of brass with a clapper. :eek:mg:

That's a sharp looking color scheme though. I can recall the original "Southern Belle" from when I worked out of the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal for the PRR.

IIRC, what I committed was a misspelling. Oops, silly me.:embarassed: I'm quite aware that the premiere varnish was the Southern Belle.

I do like to see this scheme north of the border, but I only regret that it probably won't spread too quickly. Most of the fleet will be gray for a long time to come...

    Ooh lah lah! :shade:

Such a beautiful scheme, as it is the original, too! Now, granted, the previous KCS scheme is still cool...

Took a while to change from the "ghost" scheme to all-gray (and there are still at least three units in all-white), so yes, it will be some time if the Belle scheme is the final livery KCS wears. However, in this age where motive power roams North America in power pools and run-offs, don't be surprised if a Belle comes a-callin' on Calgary in the near future.

Personally, I liked the WP and CNW heritage schemes better, but that's just me and I know there's a lot of controversy. Still, it's a great paint scheme.

Of course one big difference is that those heritage schemes were one-off paint jobs. This one is the new paint scheme for the fleet.

    True.

The way I see it, BNSF's killing the warbonnet kinda just killed a little part of me. There's no paint scheme that will bring that back, one off or fleet wide. So, I just can't get worked up about it.

Seeing Haverty do the same thing again makes my black and white world just a little more technicolor again, but it's just not the same.

Even though I'm not an ATSF fan, I think the classic silver/red/yellow warbonnet scheme was the best looking paint scheme ever put on a diesel.

KCS has an excellent paint scheme, and I still like the old ATSF scheme.

Great paint scheme. Now if it was only on an ES44 instead of that ungainly looking SD70 thing.

The middle unit in the last shot is an ES44.
