Wow, that's a dramatic change in looks. Definitely worth the wait. I may need to make a road trip to see some of these in person (no tracks near here). Thanks for posting. Regards Ed
Good looking unit. One thing you can say about Haverty, he knows how to bring back a great paint scheme.
If I knew how to say SWEEEEEEETTTT in Spanish, I'd do so And I agree with one of the comments- this IS a great improvement over either the gray or white (or Deramus red) paint schemes.
I'll admit that the Southern Belle color scheme is not one for which I had any nostalgia. The white "ghost" scheme is the old one to me, and red is positively ancient. I'm not really familiar with the earlier schemes. That said, this is certainly an improvement on gray (or white or red). Among the big roads, only CP and NS are left with "dip jobs".
I think CP looks elegant in it's basic red though. NS only looks good when freshly shopped. The curse of Black paint.
Triplex: To really appreciate the KCS Belle scheme, you almost have to be an old-time, long-time railfan or railroader from the area. I never saw KCS in anything but red or all-white (the last scheme hung around for a long time), so even the gray was a welcome break. The Belle paint is almost a complete 180 from, say, CSX's simplification of their scheme. Also remember, Mike Haverty helped bring back the old passenger colors of the Santa Fe when the Super Fleet colors came out. As president of a much-expanded KCS, Haverty is really coming out strong with this new look. Inasmuch as I almost have nostalgic feelings for the "ghost" scheme, I'm much impressed with this new scheme, and hope it holds up in revenue service.
Since neither make or have announced any intentions on doing GEVOs, I'd say not anytime soon. Tower 55, OTOH...

Hey Guys, if you like the new paint scheme you really have to see this photo. It's a night shot of the 4679. Great photo. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=181209 Yeah, they put the wrong logo on (KCS instead of KCSdeM) but I hear that they have already changed it out for the correct one. Regards Ed
Ed, that's beautiful, thanks! She would look especially good pulling a 50-75 car unit train of the the new KCS hoppers....:shade:
I wish I had caught it. All I "caught" was a post off another forum that referenced the photo. I think it showed up on KCSNotes first, but I saw it this morning on MexList. But always happy to share. And that is one nice photo. Regards Ed
Pulling same train over the Rich Mtn. grade south of Heavener.........sweet! These things will go off well come autumn, when that area's trees are in full color.
That's quite a change from current KCS schemes... I happened to catch a KCS unit (# 4011) yesterday and found it quite drab..
