West Springfield Ma show Hi, Is any one going to the springfield show at the end of this month. I am going even though I live in Ohio. I went for the first time last year and had a great time. It was overwhelming to see how big it was. This year I will be taken more time to look around. The layouts they have set up are wonderful. Alan
http://www.AmherstRail.org I went last year, it was OK, but I spent a lot more money getting there and staying the weekend than what I spent at the show. Lots of manufacturers and layouts. Kind of a "been there done that" thing.
I would go, but it's much too cold up there at this time of the year. I lived in the Boston area for 35 years before moving to Florida in 1994. But, you never can tell. It certainly would be last minute for me. Stay cool and run steam....
Bob, last year when i went there was no snow. It was in the 30's PLus with all the people in the buildings it got nice and warm. There is also a small n scale convention there to. Modlers who have been published in both Nscale railroader and Model railroader where there. Alan
Been there, want to go back Springfield was awesome when I went a few years ago. Brought a knapsack, went with a few friends, one an n scaler and one an s scaler (he now owns tomalco Track). We had a great time. I think I spent about $90-120 including getting in, and had a pretty full knapsack to show for it. If you shoot through the whole show in search of what you want in your scale first, you're usually able to find good deals. Just have to move fast, though. My friends and I were done with a first round by 130, then we ate, went back to a few dealers that had interesting stuff, then checked out the layouts and photos. Well woth the money and time in my opinion.
Alan: 30 degrees plus might be considered mild to you, but after being in Florida for 13 years it would seem like -30 degrees to me. When it gets to below 50 degrees here, I feel very cold. Anyways, if I attempt to go, it would be a very last minute decision. As of now, we'll be off to Dallas next week to visit my younger daughter, her husband and two grand daughters (Jenna & Jillian), two of the J's in the JJJ&E. There also happens to be the Plano Train Show which I attended last January. I haven't been published yet Alan, so that isn't a problem. Stay cool and run steam....
Bob, From what i have seen of your wonderful work when i came down there last year, I am surprised you have have not been reported on or do you do it for your own enjoyment. The JJJ&E is wonderful . Alan
Bob, Don't fret it, global warming is keeping us warm here in the North. It was 50 degrees here today, not to bad for west central Ohio on Jan 3rd. BTW, I was down in Florida (St. Augustine/Ocala) around Thanksgiving and it was a cool 43 in the daytime....what's up with that? Of course the week before and after our arrival it was back into the high 70's and low 80's.
Jeff: I don't do Boston in the winter if I can help it. Jeff, you just picked the wrong week to be in Florida. Stay cool and run steam.....
Rrrr and I will be there Will be my first time. Look for me in my hat. I'll try to post pics of Rrrr if she will let me Pictures of Rrrr: http://picasaweb.google.com/Asymmetrical.Embracer/SweetAndLovelyRoberta02
Easy mistake to make. There seems to be a Springfield in many many states. I don't supose we'll see Homer or Bart there either but who knows, the DO live in Springfield :teeth:
I wish I was going! When I lived in NH, this was called The Big One! I would start saving my money in October and take the three hour trip down to Springfield and spend two days finding all things N scale. When I moved to IL, Tina and I would fly out once every two years until 2002. Maybe 2008 we'll go again. To any New Englanders going out there, have a tuna melt at Friendly's for me:shade: . Jim
Bump - Anyone want to make sure we meet? It's this weekend. Roberta and I will be there all day. Please PM me if you would like to get together for lunch or dinner. What are "must see" for N Scale? Thanks
