Enjoy your snow!!! You could have ice like forcasted here in the midwest. I'd much rather have a foot of snow than a 1/4" of ice. Snow for Christmas is all I care about.

Gee, going to be 67 here in Atlanta today. Not even sure if we will see any snow this year.

Snow chains for a 1/4" of snow? I don't chain up unless we have a foot plus....:p
Given the ice, I know what you speak of.

Here's what steam looks like in brutal cold:

Boy, Im just glad I was not working last night, it hit the zero mark at my house in Cheney. It was cold and snowy the monday night when I worked at Hauser but thankfully I had a utility shift and had pretty easy work such as changing FRED batterys, helping the hostler move power around a a 1000 mile air test. Sure is pretty out around here though.

That's what I was asking earlier. RRs used to slow trains down in cold. You'd see train orders (slow orders) just for these instances. These days? Then in warmups, usually more slow orders for rough track, etc.

I am listening to LA "Inland Empire" on Railroadradio. They are calling 55 mph (88 kph) wind, gusts to 65 mph in San Bernadino.

I was out working in a sweatshirt last night, moving dirt. On November 29th, in Michigan. Very rare weather and I took advantage of it. The wind was out of the Southwest. Woke up this morning to heavy rain. The wind has changed to the north the past hour. The rain is now icy cold and blasting out of the clouds. We expect 12 inches of snow tonoght and tomorrow. Then again, our local weatherdude has about a 50% success rate.

This will be the 3rd year in 5 that we have received a massive snow storm the first week of December. I remember we used to get these right around Thanksgiving or before.

5-10 inches of snow forecasted here in Galesburg today and tonight. I hope we get it. This will be our first snow of the year and atleast it will be a decent one. I am ready. I love the snow.

For anyone who can get trackside today, where this cold outbreak has dropped snow, it should be a good one for photos. Any passing train will kick up clouds of billowing powder snow.

Here are a couple temperature restrictions from the NW Division timetable:

    Bellingham Sub,
When ambient temperature excedes 85 degrees fahrenhight, maximum sppeds for trains are 60MPH passenger, 50MPH frieght. In addition train exceeding 100 TOB must not exceed 35 MPH. So no cold weather restrictions there.

    Fallbirdge Sub,
Cold Weather Speed Restrictions, When temperatures are below -10 degrees fahrenhight, the applicable restrictions apply: 40 MPH for trains exceeding 100 tons per operative brake, 50 MPH for trains less then 100 tons per operative brake, 65 for passenger trains, Z-symbol intermodal trains, or single level loaded intermodal trains. They also have heat restrictions on the Fallbrigde sub.

So it all depeends on where you are on the railroad as to whet type of temperature restrictions you willl have.

Well, we're getting flurries here right now and it is getting extremely icy in the western areas of D/FW (west and north of Fort Worth mostly) Our offices are closing at 2pm as they are anticipating the worst conditions to be around rush hour.

I will of course make a detour on the way home and take some photos of the TRE RDC's, like I did last time we had a "snow day".

Well it's back to 32 degrees. I heard the Sumas Turn 2 nights ago, about 4 o clock in the afternoon. Now it's just the ice and and packed snow, it'll be warmer now so things are getting back to normal FINALLY.

32 here right now also, but unfortunately it has been pouring rain since very early in the AM. Calling for 1/4"-1" Ice with anywhere from 3"-16" of snow on top of it
Should make for an interesting drive to and from work in the very early AM. Been awhile since we have had any significant snow in this area.

Well our big snow for last night turned out to be all sleet and ended with black ice.
Lots of idiots on their top!
Ken....I wish they would come back so I could get some photos here in the mountains!
