Go to www.railpictures.net, there are a few cab shots there. Standard control stand is the BLE-ARR stand... i.e, no desktop (and yes, that's a good thing)

Hey thanks. Cool how they went back to the old EMD controll panel, and what puzzles me is...I think the horn valve is still in the same place on the very top with a diffrent design, but whats the lever below it that looks just like it here?...

Thats in a UP, but this BNSF thats BRAN NEW has a diffrent one....

It is VERY NOISEY inside those things.

I can get a shot or 2 for you. They Are not the Caddy the 70 MACS are. The ACE's are very loud inside NO Whisper Cabs EMD thought we did need them any more. They have the same 710 engine as the MAC's do they just turned up the fuel and did something with the timing to get 4400 horse power out of them. And different inverter system(has one inverter for both trucks). So now looks like will lose the whole engine when 1 traction motor grounds out. The ES 44DC look just like the ES44AC's on the inside and outside. I can get you a couple of those if you wish.

Ill be. Thanks for that info as well as you OC and SECCRET. Id like to be 100% reasured if I had a copy of the 'operators manual' for more detailed info on it. One site (FallenFlags Railroad.com) shows alot of manuals of all kinds of early models, but not any newer ones like the one of which im asking about here.

What I got a large charge from is how some hogger jammed some tissues into the gap between the console & the radio tranceiver.
Can't have vibration in the cab! ROFL

It's 4300hp... the previous generation 710 was already at 4300hp as well, witness CSX and Alaskas SD70MACs.

AS for Whisper cabs... don't blame EMD for not including them as an option... EMD didn't think you needed them becuse the railroads didn't think you needed them. The old whisper cabs required maintenance that the railroads didn't want to spend money on.

EMD is working on a whisper cab for BHP Billitons next SD70ACe/lc order... as BHP Billtion specified they do so (BHPs previous SD70ACe/lcs are literally the most optioned out locomotives ever built)

ES44DCs are visually different from ES44ACs... do a search for my previous post on the differences.

Its been a very long time since ive been in a cab under a 8 notch load. The last I remember it was on a work train, and we had to make 'sign languages' to eachother it was that deafening. I think this was a GP38 or 40, not a roader, it shook like a leaf as well, 30 cars I believe. I really havent been in the up-dated whispers, but I was told they were decent. I considered it like a school bus, the older ones shook, were noisy and vibrated and you felt EVERY bump. We the kids would love the NEWST bus, like we had crappy, ran down bus '40', the newst, bus # 180. heheh. when 40 would break down.

Well, if they see that it costs more to have things quiet and smooth than dependable and fuel efficent, so be it.

Just to let you know it is the BELL Not the Alerter. The Alerter is the little whippy looking thing next to it and a little below it. Shawn

    Desks or lack there OF!!!!!!!

Ride one of those with out the desks and the VERY little desk on the Cond side for 12 hours or more and see how much of a good thing that is. OBTW I am a conductor that rides those for the 12 hours or more as mentioned above. The engineer has no place to put his orders or any paperwork of his. Hit a rough spot in the track sometime, everything winds up in his lap!!!! Coffee gets really HOT!!!! Tell me again how much of a good thing it is!!!!!!!!!!

Try operating one for 12 hours with a desktop... then see how much you like it.

Well I move them around the yards, the engineers that I work with, They all hate'em, no place to put anything. I end up holding all the engineers stuff cause he has no place for them. Clutters up what little space I have. So ya, I know how much they dislike them.

Seems as though when something changes, everyone is critical of the changes made. I am sure refinements are on the way. Just look how the wide cab has evolved over the years.........

I bet if you took a poll of a large number of engineers, you'd find those that fell into both camps.
