Boylston depot update. This time I'm almost done with everything! I have added some weathering to the depot. My goal is to make it look like it the paint has been washed out from those hot summers in Central WA. Also completed the roofing details. I noticed that in my photos of the depot the rear roof actually had tarpaper roofing, probably due to the small addition that was built on. The shingles are found completely on the front roof and about a quarter of the way down from the top on the back roof. I also went ahead and weathered the roof. You'll probably notice that there is one strip of tarpaper that is still black. That is the way it looked in my one photo of the rear of the building. Just for fun I thought I'd make it match! Someone must have replaced one strip recently. Another small detail is the phone box that is mounted on the front of the depot. This was actually moved from the inside of the depot to the outside. It was originally placed on the east end side of the depot and sometime later moved to the front. Apparently the section foreman, who lived inside the depot, got tired of the section laborers going in and out of his 'home' to use the phone. Here is a quick photoshop mock-up of some track in front of the depot. So what's next? I will also build a few other small buildings that were present at Boylston. But I think I am going to take a small break from Boylston and begin again on the Columbia.
For shingles I used a set from a company called New Rail Models. For the tarpaper I used a set from a local company called Builders in Scale. I was pretty pleased with this tarpaper, as it was not too thick for n scale. Plus it was very easy to weather. I made the font used on the depot signs myself. I zoomed up close on my photos of the depot and others like Kittitas and made a complete A-Z set by hand just by looking at the photos. I took a little while with a ruler and all but I think they came out all right. Some of the fine angles got lost when I had to reduce the copies I made to the appropriate scale. Overall I think they look okay. Here's a close up of the sign. As you can see the printing of the decal with letters so small it was hard to get it crisp and clean. But I think it came out okay and i guess it kind of looks old. So I feel it works.

Thank you for all the comments guys. It really helps keep me going with my dreams. I hope to complete enough sections of my layout to be able to run some trains at least in some kind of a circle. So if things stay on course I hope to maybe particapate in a Train show here locally towards the end of this year or beginning of 2008. I got my fingers crossed that's for sure.
I went to the monroe show. I went early on saturday and only stayed there for about 2 hours. I then went train chasing over stevens pass.
The show was okay for me. It was in a new building. There was a lot of stuff there but mainly HO and bigger scale stuff for sale. Really not all that much for n scale. Lots of layouts though so that was fun to see. I didn't take photos of the show. It was actually really dark inside this new building. You know I totally forgot about the milw depot until you mentioned it on your post ken. I should have looked for it.

What's done: Boylston depot Water supply windmill Coal house and tool shed Motor car house landscape carved Not yet completed: Bunkhouse 2 car garages plaster corkboard and track landscaping details other various details What I am building is a diorama and my finished product will not be used on my layout. I plan on building another set of Boylston buildings in the near future that will be used on my layout. My plan is to have this diorama completed in time for the prototype modeler’s meet this April. I am doing my best to build the diorama to scale however, my diorama will not show the west or east switch and will not show Johnson Creek Tunnel. To span that entire length in scale on a diorama is quite large and I don’t have the time to do this for a diorama. That being said the diorama should be very close to scale based on the vicinity or section in which all the buildings of Boylston were located. I hope that makes sense. photos soon...
