That temperature drop must be one of Murphy's Laws. As soon as you go back outside again.... :eek:mg:

Good luck with those teachers. Some folks have a lot of knowledge. But just aren't the best at passing it along.

Just stumbled across this post, and was fascinated reading all five pages. But it's kinda like reading a mystery novel, and finding that the last page has been torn out. I'm anxious to find out where Mike ended up!

I think Mike H. was hired by UP. See this thread.

    That is dated September 24th.

Yes He is quite right. Was hired by UP on the 22nd of Sept. and just waiting to make sure that I've passed my Physical Abilities Test. If I have I start class on Nov. 6th up in North Platte,NE Apparently BNSF didn't want me:sad: ..........O'well there lost UP's gain:teeth:

Sorry didn't realize I never updated it. I worked for Renzenberger(Train crew transport driver) for about a month before going back to my old job (Mortuary Transport driver). Will be doing that until I leave.

Mike, good luck with your new job. I have been trying to get a job with BNSF since June. No luck for anything in the Galesburg area. UP is hireing in the Rochelle area as well as Sterling IL. I've been un-employed for only a week and have the possibilty of a good job at the end of this month, but if it doesn't work out.......

Keep us posted when you can!

UP might be a better option right now anyways. At least in the Northwest division BNSF has hired way to many people. There is talk about layoffs for some of the real new guys and myself, I have been bouncing around terminals to keep work. I am in interbay now but with some changes coming up in they way they run things here I might be moving agine. My class for example is spread out in Interbay, Vancouver, Pasco, and Wishram, and the class after us is in Kalamath Falls. We were all hired in Spokane! If it gets real bad I might look into UP too.

Sorry to hear that's happening to you, Kevin. Hope things pick up! Appreciate the tip, though. I wonder why UP is bringing in so many guys, and BNSF is slowing down?

    Kevin-

Bummer. Sorry to hear this. Guess I'm not surprised. Management these days, comes out of "college," (alleged higher education), with weird ideas, and easily questionable abilities. This is what happens to employees everywhere. Not just railroading. Hope it all gets smoother quickly for you!

Couple of reasons for all this. 1, BNSF got after hiring a bit sooner than UP, so UP is still behind the ball a bit. 2, some of the slow down is seasonal or up/down cycle thing. 3, BNSF is kinda warehouseing people for the future. The main point of this ramble is that it will come back.

Talk to the guys who hired out 10-15 years ago. They talk about going years before they could hold year round.

Does anyone know if BNSF and UP pay the same? Comparing apples to apples, if a conductor with BNSF and a conductor with UP have the same amount of seniority, and are both working steadily, would they be making roughly the same amount of money, or does one of the railroads have a better wage scale than the other?
