Fall color, only muted by the impenetrable gloomy sky... BNSF Glasgow Sub, MP 2.0: Top Secret location: CPKC Portal Sub, MP 474:
Rapidly losing my light at Susquehanna, PA, 05/28/1983. Former Erie mainline. Such beautiful latticework on these skewed truss bridges.
From 03/23/1996 at Sinks, KY on the former L&N main between Atlanta and Cincinnati. The line that tunnels through the rock once headed on to Louisville, but it was mostly lifted years ago. I thought this scene was really neat, so waited .... and waited and waited for a mainline train, but nothing ever came.
Yep, right on. There's a lot of neat scenery up that way that I'd like to explore in more detail. Years ago my wife and I made a loop trip where we railfanned the former L&N main one way and the Rathole the other way. It worked out really well.
Finally found Sinks on a map! The line through the tunnel is the Sinks Spur, and it end in nearby Mount Vernon, KY. It's serving a quarry there, from what I see on OpenRailwayMap. Nice countryside in that area, right in Daniel Boone National Forest. That would be a nice spur to model!
From forty years ago in October 1983 at Otisville, NY on the former Erie Graham Line, a cutoff built between 1906 and 1909 and still in use today. As with my Sinks, KY shot above, this too was one of those spots where I waited and waited without a train. With those classic Erie signals, a mighty pole line still shouldering a load of wires and Otisville Tunnel in the composition, it would have made a nice shot.
@badlandnp , both of those shots are great but that second shot just has such a lonesome feel to it. Love it!
It was sunset, at Rider siding just west of Medora. These badlands out here have such an appealing lonesomeness to them, it draws this fella in. Was waiting on these two trains, https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/bnsf-glendive-mt.85243/page-71#post-1278768
