I've been an avid Z scaler for a long time. I wound up getting involved in a number of Z FB groups and somehow visiting this site dropped off my radar. No real reason why, maybe I let myself get sucked into the social media vortex. Logging in today and taking a look around reminded me that this is a stellar group of Z modelers here, and this is where I should be spending more of my time. So look for some updates from me on a regular basis! I was pleased to have my small 21x42 layout featured in the current issue of ZTrack magazine. It's not much of a layout but I do have fun with it without taking up much space. There have been some updates to the layout since publication, such as some new details and lighting. I am drawing up plans for a larger layout, but recently found out our landlord is selling our condo so we are on the home search (not an easy task these days). I'm hoping that we wind up somewhere where I'll have even more room than I have now. Good to be back! Here's a recent project: custom painted GMTX GP38-2: Steve W
I don’t think anybody believed you left, but that you were merely on vacation. Or worse yet… As we all know, the forum is kind of slow this time of the year.
Steve, Nice to have a fellow New Jersian and a talented Z scaler here. look forward to more posts! Scott
Thanks Scott! I think you've seen my custom painted CNJ boxcar (I'll post it below just in case). Next CNJ project will either be an F7 or RS-3. While I currently have a small layout based on the SP in CA, I'm drawing up plans for a larger layout that will be based on the CNJ in the area that I'm currently living (Clinton area). Steve W
Steve, Nice work on that boxcar. If you need any info I just inherited a bunch of books and journals regarding the CNJ. I have some rolling stock you might be interested in as well. I've posted some threads regarding the CNJ: https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/can-you-identify-this-boxcar.150245/ https://www.trainboard.com/highball...-of-cnj-plug-door-boxcar.151531/#post-1272157 https://www.trainboard.com/highball...2000-build-aka-baby-face-double-ender.148995/ https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/building-a-cnj-camelback-b-3a.130120/ Scott
Jeff: I am modeling the SP personally, and will certainly see what I can do to get any SP related items produced. Our first freight car will be announced at the NTS show next week. Scott: While I do have an SP layout I am planning on building a second layout based on the CNJ in the area that I currently live (Lehigh Line). Thanks for the links. Steve W
I tend to keep my eras too vague (in SP I have everything from Black Widow F units to SD70Ms), but I'm looking at 60s and early 70s. I know they were the twilight years of the CNJ but I prefer the motive power available during that era. But I'm already pushing my luck with an upcoming blue and tangerine F unit. Just can't tie myself to a specific point in time. I admire folks that are more focused (like Tony Koester, he models a specific date in August of 1954), but I just can't bring myself to be that specific. I guess that was a long winded way of saying I'm flaky! Steve W
I like that era too, but I am calling mine between 1956-57 because NP had both steam and diesel servicing at the same time then.
When you start out with nothing but 40-50-60’s (MTL), then add 80-90-2K (AZL), what else can you do ??? RUN TRAINS!
