Nice wash rack George! And the WIFE has a great idea! Say, maybe just install it at the door of the RV......

After looking a few more times it seems those windows are dark tinted like the rest of the train. There HAS to be some FRA rules that say... ummm... never mind !!!:whistle::whistle:

What is that sponge bob set-up you got there George! ? The clean freaks will like that. Now let's see how we can weather that shiny engine?

    Looking good.

    Aiiyiiyii !
Had something else here and realized it was in the wrong discussion / thread.

You and your wife have a good day.

    Later!

    DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it starts by turning the wash rack into a coin-op.

Then, the timer feeds the power to the rails.

THEN, your wife hides the key to the coin bin lock.

And FINALLY, you’re paying the wife so’s ya kin run Y’ OWN DERN TRAINS!!!!!

Now that leads to an interesting idea!:
Lightly soil/grime/weather HALF an engine; a shelf- or siding queen - and put it in the spinner.

    Great idea!

You might want to add spray shields on the trailing side of the wash (towards the front of the loco if it is proceeding forward through the wash), so that the brushes would not be able to sling the grime they just scrubbed off onto the already cleaned portion of the loco.

Well, as usual, I can't stop myself. I tried, really I did. The thing is when I went to the latest post in the tread this morning, badlandnp's post was where I landed. When I read it, I fully expected to find that THE WIFE's great idea was actually putting a wash rack at the door for George to go through.........

Despite that, I really really really like how that turned out George. Excellent idea and execution! (y)(y)(y) The idea of having a half clean half dirty piece of equipment going though would take it to the next level.

I do have a couple old Amtrack locomotives setting by the car shop off the turntable I could sacrifice. Just as soon as I get more of the spring 'honey-do' list done and find my weathering chalks.

I'm almost sure the E5 belongs to said Wife? Keep that one sparkling clean and like you said sacrifice something else for the wash :) BTW, how is she enjoying that Kato set? I don't remember seeing a video of it since you got it?

Over breakfast this morning...and 2 pots of coffee THE WIFE and I discussed...
    THE WASH RACK
    ....which we both really like.
Here it what I have now. Using the old 'caboose track'....

THE WIFE isn't happy that (1) Locomotives have to back through the wash before going forward again to get washed ! (2) She can't wash the WHOLE train...just the locomotive. Much to my protests and her logic I finally had to agree with her. THE WASH RACK needs a dedicated run through track

The only problems... (1) I have to do the track realignment ! (2) I am not sure I have a Unitrack #6 right turnout I will need laying around anywhere....hmmmmmmmm.

But I did come up with a plan where the whole train can come off the otter rung of the ladder. The 'run around track'. Yes...there is an "S" curve in there. BUT..the train wont be coming through it at 'track speed' so I should be OK. Here is a rough draft of my plan. A little track realignment and it should be good to go.

I am crossing my fingers it all works....

PSSSTT Hey George ! You know She really wants a steam belching loco to pull that train don't you ? ;) Gotta have a reason to wash it you know .... I happen to know a used loco dealer that has some really great prices ... Mike

Are those #6 or #4 switches and equivalent curves in your S-curves?

Even if #4s, that's no worse than a Unitrack single crossover, which most anything will take at 'track speed' just fine.

#6 and all curves in the yard are equivalent.
