I recently acquired an N scale GTEL 8500 big blow #10. I like to add photos of the real loco to my inventory list along with the model picture, but I have not been able to locate one for the #10. I have seen it on the UP roster and searched the internet, rail pic archives, UP site to no avail, any suggestions where I might look next?
I looked all over everything I could get my hands on-that's a rarely photographed unit! Found one on Ebay, but it's a distant shot, can barely see it!
Just for fun, I did some looking. Nothing found. Amazing how this unit attracted so few cameras. This has me wondering why?
She lasted nearly to the end of the turbines, retired in Feb 1970, traded to GE 11 months later in Jan 1971, but she somehow evaded cameras! https://utahrails.net/up-diesel-roster/up-diesel-roster-01.php
Wow, that's crazy! I have the number boards and builder plate from Milwaukee Road SD40-2 #190, but pics of it have been hard to find as well! I have two, both post 1980 in the "Lightning scheme", but tried finding pics earlier-no luck!
THANK YOU KURT! That is perfect. As already mentioned by others, it is interesting how camera shy this unit was. I really appreciate your time and effort to locate this pic. Thank you very much again. Chuck.
I guess I didn't try searching gas turbine, versus GTEL, so there ya have it, google to the rescue! Great find!
