Arriving in spring 2024 with the Silver series (DC) at $159.99. The DCC and sound I believe were $259.99.

Unfortunately I may not be around for a 2024 release.

I am in favor of the 3 Rio Grande units with Tsunami in their "gold" version because it is the "as delivered" scheme which Kato has not done.

As time marches on and my health deteriorates I cannot plan for anything in the future.

As an old skool N Scaler active in the hobby again after retirement, is it typical these days to preorder and wait an entire year or more to see what you bought?

I hadn't realized that it's pervaded the hobby as much as it has. It's just me, but pre-ordering a pair of $200 Ea locomotives with the assumption that my life will be the same a year from now is one I can't make with confidence. The other assumption is that whatever is ordered will run well, and that's not always a good bet.

Oh well. I might gamble on a $30 freight car though. :)

I just think of the new GP40-2w that just came out, I had ordered one when they were first announced and some time back I walked into my LHS and was told whoever he had ordered them through had canceled the orders. I guess because it was taking so long and you would have to reorder it. I didn’t and now it’s out. I can’t remember how long those were in the pipeline, but I’ll wait for the next run and hopefully then they will come with the correct trucks and plow. Otherwise they look really good. There’s so much going on between here and China, who knows how long it could actually take the SD45s to arrive.

You're not alone here Brother. That said, God is good and my faith will sustain me. There are three things I want before going home. A Kato NCL. A Kato TC Zephyr with E5 B unit. A Vikings Super Bowl win. I firmly believe that I have a much better chance with Kato. Like the song goes. Two out of three ain't bad....

I kinda want some BN ones as I have a quartet of AZL Z scale ones. I'm really hoping someone in N figures out that there's a market for later ALCo Century units *cough*Atlas*cough*

I just resigned up to Trainboard. I was beginning to model railroad back in early 2000's and backed out because of this "model" of practice.
I was gifted about 15-18 mainly Atlas N scale locos and about 30 rolling stock along with 40 pieces of flextrack last week and it kinda rekindled my interest. Only 1 of the locos fall into my desires to model; a Kato SD45 UPac.
I had even purchased a Digitrax DSC51, which has NEVER been used.
If I can trade or haggle a few matching locos, I will probably build a little layout and put wired decoders in the locos. If I can't gather a consist of real interest, I'm feared my interest will wain again.

It is indeed on their website. As to price and release date, apparently that information is still TBA?

From what I have seen, Atlas does not have firm release dates. I pre-ordered some of their forthcoming "logging flat cars" last summer. Originally they were supposed to be here by now. But rather quietly that date has been pushed well into 2023. I am disappointed. This is why I don't pre-order, regardless of brand. Waits can be a vast unknown and the price may not be firm.

Going with some of the comments in this thread and my observations at train shows along with talking to members of other clubs at shows like the Altoona N Scale Weekend it is probably not a well kept secret that a lot of people in this hobby are of advanced age and having to pre-order and then find the expected arrival date of the ordered item pushed back into the next year does not sit too well. The manufacturers are at the mercy of the situation in China with the Covid problem there. But it is hard to feel sorry for them because this was a problem that they helped to create by going to China in the first place. Maybe they need to hear from their customers. Maybe our voice will help them. After all, this situation is not only hurting customers but hurting the manufacturers also. We can't buy what they can't provide nor can they sell what they don't have. Maybe it is time to declare outsourcing operations dead throwing it on the trash pile of economic bad ideas. In writing this I am reminded of a member of our club who passed away a couple of years ago. He always talked of having a German locomotive known as the "alligator". He ordered it and it finally arrived on the first day of the visitation. Jack's family placed it in the coffin with him. Jack finally got his locomotive. I don't want to be like Jack.

Don't know about current situation, but covid or state of affairs in China had nothing to do with this in early 2000's.
I was just getting started, or so i thought, but you couldn't buy what you wanted then...you had to pre-order then or hope to get lucky with new releases. Sure seemed like a good way to slow down the growth of a hobby.
i chose not to and dropped out. Also, in my very small circle of acquaintances, I personally know 2 others that didn't pursue purchasing model trains.
I suppose I was just not "enthusiastic" enough!

One advantage you have right now is "trade stock" With the engines you were gifted you can probably put them up here, either for straight sale or to trade for the ones you are wanting.

That I plan to do, but I don't/didn't want that to be the first things I did with my registration.
I also have a little HO stuff, that I plan to GIVE AWAY for the cost of postage.
