Started on a double crossover yesterday... .... and put in another 5-6 hours on it today and still a ways to go. The image above was at lunch break. Worked to 6:00 and got as far as above. I think I'll actually be able to finish it tomorrow. I wanted two but not so sure now. If I do another I'll approach it differently than how I'm building this one. Sumner
Well I finally finished the articulated container flat project. My refrigeration units arrived last week, some laser printed AC rooftop units that I have converted to refrigeration units for some of the 12 foot containers and 4 that I crafted myself. The green is the laser printed ones and the blue are my creations. The next set in back with the green and white containers is a articulated set made from modified Bandai flats. And the first 2 rows are regular single container flats. I have a bunch of 2 axle cars and in the front row is a two axle container flat.

Decide while I remember what I'm doing to move onto the last custom turnout that I need when I start laying track... I've merged a RH #6 turnout with a curved turnout that has a 15" inner radius and and 18" outer radius. Used Fast Track templates again but have had to modify things slightly. I think it is going to work though. Sumner
Well, two of the little Kato Powered Chassis units showed up today. Now I gotta figure out what to put em under for some fun motive power.
Finished up the crossover as far as I'm going to go with it now. Still need to solder the throwbars on and cut the electrical isolation joints. I'll wait on the throwbars until I'm sure which switch machine I'll use and if the hole for the control will be in the middle or off to one side or the other. Also once I cut the isolation gaps the turnout isn't as structurally sound as it is now so want to be ready to attach it to the layout's surface when I do that which will again reinforce it. I still have a number of code 70 #6's to make but will get back to the backdrop/divider now as I'm healed up enough from the ladder incident to get on one again. I'll need to apply Sheetrock mud and paint to the divider so will have to start and stop on that which will give me some time to build the code 70 turnouts during those times. Sumner
One goal and reason I recently moved to n-scale was the ability to model scenes in a smaller space and try new landscape techniques. Currently on my workbench is my first attempt at a winter scene. I hope to have some scratch made trees added to the scene by this Weekend Photo Fun.
Had a couple of Tortoise turnout motors that had intermittent contacts. So this afternoon I took them apart, cleaned up the PC board and the contacts. Then adjusted the tension on the contacts and applied some NO-OX to both contacts and PC board. Re-tested good with the ohm meter. These will be used on the last two turnouts on my current layout. They were purchased in 1997 and this will be their third layout.
I picked this up recently from a small hobby/train shop in Madison, WI. It was part of an "estate" that they had acquired. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "for parts only" and 10 being "mint, TRO, near perfect", this loco comes in at around a 5-6. I need to get into to check it out under the shell. It has been converted to DCC (Digitrax DN or DZ 123), which was a surprise. It has a few bare spots on the shell and a few bent handrails on the tender. This should be an interesting project....

Putting another new (used) GP20 through first inspection. Gotta love these old locos! Despite having fully carpeted axles, more oil than Texas, and lots of other evidence for having been run hard and often, it rolls along pretty quietly. All it needs now are a DCC decoder, some MT couplers, and a good wash.
